Why is your computer slow? Well the answer to that question is beyond the scope of this text but I will tell you that it has to do with your computer building up junk in many different areas in time. The more of these areas that you clean up the faster your computer will be – it’s that simple. Take a look at registry cleaners – they are designed to clean up all of the junk and inefficiencies that build up in your registry to make it faster. The only problem with registry cleaners is that they focus on one area of your computer which will only give you so much of an advantage while there are many different areas of your computer that need to be cleaned. This is why using registry cleaners really aren’t a complete solution to making your computer faster – they only clean one small area while there are many different areas that need to be either cleaned or tuned for performance.

Your computer uses it’s RAM as a temporary working place. When some of these files are in RAM they also need a temporary working place of their own and they will use a folder on your hard drive called the temporary folder (or a Temp folder for short). When window’s is done working with these files in your temp folder it deletes them and everything is fine and dandy. The problem arises when you kill a program or when it freezes or hangs. What happens to the files in that folder is that they were never actually removed and after a while of this happening your Temp folder can build up a lot of files that are just slowing your computer down. Here’s a simple procedure to remove them:

If you are running Windows XP on your computer just close all the running files and programs and then click on Start, click on Run and then type %Temp% in the little box and then hit the enter key. Now you’re going to get another small window that will now show you what is in your Temp folder. All you have to do now is to just delete everything that you possibly can in that folder. If for some odd reason it says that you cannot delete a certain file, just skip it and move onto the next one.

For those of you using Windows Vista, close all running programs and files and click Start, type Run in the start menu search box. When the Run window comes up type %Temp% and hit enter. Now delete everything that you see in that folder. If there are some files that you cannot delete, then just ignore them and move onto the next one.

By cleaning up your Temp folder regularly you are first freeing up your computer of hard drive space which will make it run faster in the long run (it will have less files that it will have to manage) and your computer will also have less internal errors.

Malware is basically any piece of software that enters into your computer without you knowing with the intention of harming your computer. Spyware on the other hand is software that is used to collect personal information on you like your passwords, username and credit card numbers. This is why protecting yourself against both is a very important task that should not be overlooked, but for the purposes of this article were going to focus more on talking about how to protect yourself from malware.

A lot of computers actually have malware on them without the users even knowing about it, and to make matters worse, malware is one of the biggest reasons as to why your computer may be running slowly. If you are concerned about the speed of your computer, you are probably going to want to look into removing the malware from your computer. I personally use 2 different pieces of software to protect myself against malware. One is used to prevent malware from getting into the computer and the other is used to scan and remove malware from my hard drive.

The first main program that I use is called Malware Bytes Anti-Malware (if you are intrested in them, just do a Google search for them). This program is the one that I use to scan my whole computer to try and find any malware infections on the computer and it also removes them. Now, when you have downloaded the program, just perform a full scan so that it look through all of the files on your hard drive to see if they are malware or malware related. Once the scan is done and you want to do another scan in the future, a simple quick scan should work just fine.

The next program that I rely on is called Spyware Blaster (if you are interested just do a Google search for it). This is the program that is used to protect your computer by trying to stop programs from finding their way into your computer. Now, all you have to do is to just install the program on your computer and it will give you full protection. All you have to do once it is installed is to make sure to click on the “Protection Status” button and then select Enable All Protection. There is one big downside to using the free version of this software – you have to manually go in and update it. To update the software, just click on the “Updates” button and then select “Check for Updates”.

I once ran a scan on a users computer and found 270 infected objects. The user had no clue that there was malware running on his computer and was shocked that I was able to show him this report. This is why is it critical that you should run scans on your computer regularly.

Setup Secure WordPress Blog in 1 step

WordPress blog security is not something most bloggers even consider when they start blogging to make money and yet it could be one of the most significant factors that will impact your success down the road.

But lost productivity and income while your compromised or "hacked blog are not the only problems you are faced with. There are a few more serious impacts to your overall business that unfortunately become obvious way too late.

Expert Consulting Expense. If your blog is a primary site and income generator you simply have to have it properly restored and operational and for most people it mean finding a professional willing to do it for you. I can tell you first hand, as security consultant that it can get very expensive in a very short time. Expert consulting bill tend to increase fast and can end up being very expensive.

Ban by Search Engines. Unknown to most of the people – search engines do ban sites that have been identified as hacked. In many cases owner of the site is blissfully unaware of the fact until someone lets him know about it. It can directly hurt your cash flow as visitors who click on your link in search engine results are presented with a malware worning instead of being sent to your blog. You could have had new visitors but instead you got lost opportunities.

Damaged reputation. If you blog is also used to represent you on the web – your reputation can be damaged in the eyes of potential customers just because your blog was defaced or what is even worth exploited and has malware on it. When your potential customers get infected – you can be damn sure that will let others know about it!

Having a secure WordPress blog can be a simple 3 step process that properly implemented can mean a difference between blogging success and trashed reputation. Chose what fits your needs.

With Internet fraud on the increase it is becoming increasingly important to protect yourself and your personal details. One slip up can cost you dearly. One thing you should do for a start is to protect your passwords.

Speak to anyone involved in the Internet security industry and they will tell you it is very important to have different passwords for every major account you log into. Obvious, right? Well yes, it is, and lots of online companies help you out by forcing you to have a complicated password, or even generating one for you. That’s good, right?

Well no, not really. Consider it it this way. You have an email account which you access every day, often from multiple locations. It stands to reason that you log into your email account more than all your other accounts. The more you use it the more vulnerable it is.

You may think that last statement is not accurate, that your password is strong and nobody can know it. You might be right, but the first time you need to use a public computer to access your email, can you be sure there isn’t a keylogger on the computer you are using? Can you be sure their systems are secure so there isn’t someone sniffing your password?

This all sounds a little far fetched, and indeed it is rare, but it does happen. Every day there are many people whose email accounts get compromised. It is by far the most targetted type of user account.

Email accounts are usually targetted primarily so they can be used for sending spam. The second reason they are hacked is because they contain user accounts and password information.

However, this is often not your fault. You sign up for a service, enter your secure password and wait for your confirmation email. You check your email and there is your username and password as a “helpful reminder” in plain text!

If a hacker manages to hack your email account they now have access to your email, as well as the other account you have signed up for. If you happen to use the same password for other accounts (Facebook, Twitter, Bank!) then they may try to gain access to those too.

This is a big problem, and as individuals we can try to stem it by deleting these emails (from the trash too!), but the real issue is companies sending them out in the first place.

As a final word of advice, try to keep to these following rules:

Keep your email password as secure as possible (letters + numbers etc)

Use different passwords for all accounts (not even similar)

Change your main email password every now and then

Delete emails with passwords in them (and empty the trash)

Never trust a public computer. If you must use one, change your password asap

Never use any common passwords

Do you find that you keep on getting compromised by virus, worms, or trojans although you have the best security tools installed? The following details is comprehensive and practical to the application to secure your system.

You can defend both the system and your computer from almost all threats to your privacy and security, if you have a similar policy or just implement these points.

1. Each and every patches to Windows security for your Windows OS must be updated. All you need is a working internet connection and you will have an always updated Windows OS without any cost.

2. Have the best antivirus software installed. Consult software review for the best antivirus ranking to date. Nowadays, antivirus software solutions are sold at very affordable price; some with limited capablities are even free. Provide internet connection to let the antivirus update itself anytime, and let it run automatically when the computer starts. This can be done automatically by default with most programs.

3. Have a firewall installed and configure it well. A software or hardware based firewall is ok, as long as it is working and set properly. A router, in case you are using it, usually have a firewall already built in it, so that you just need to set the rules to make it work properly and effectively. Software version of firewalls are widely available, even the free ones!

4. Don’t install or run any program, but test them in different system or computer first to be safe. A virtual machine or a virtual computer can do this tricky job with no cost at all and act as a free virus protection.

5. Backup your files regularly, just in case. A best plan includes a way out of the worst. The cost may just be a few DVD’s. If you have a big harddisk to store a backup, there will be no cost at all!

It’s clear that it cost very low and even free if you want to protect yourself from threats.

Computer Security Tutorial - Patch Windows using Panda Security Online Scan

This issue comes up as a new trend in online scan service provided by antivirus software and computer security solution vendors are trending. Should we really take advantage of this service? This question triggers many other questions along, such as:

- Do we need to make use of a free virus scan? At times you need to be sure that your system id free of malware whatsoever, or if a rogue antivirus that can fool you is actually hiding just behind the currently running antivirus. We can take advantage of the always-up-to-date state of an online free virus scan database, in case it can detect an otherwise undetectable virus, due to its state of update and possible different algorithm used.

- Is an online free virus scan really effective? Although this depends on the state of update of the database being used, chances are that an online scan tends to use the latest virus definition database. Chances are that it always uses the latest technologies in the engine. Regardless of that, not knowing the previous condition that the system is in can lead to uselessness of the scan, if for instance the system is already compromised by a virus.

What is it like? The usual procedure that an online free virus scan follows is: (1) download; (2) install; (3) update; (4) scan. The procedure sequence resembles a typical program installation steps of any regular free antivirus software. But it actually differs in that what it installs is only the scanner portion and not the whole antivirus program. After the scan is complete, should any infections be detected, some online scan service will try to disinfect right away, while some will only notify us about this findings and suggest on running a more comprehensive antivirus scan instead, to completely remove any existence of malware.

- On what occasion will we need to use an online virus scan? Right when it is time that we should take the risk of being compromised or let our system be infected by trojan, worm, or a virus. If the running security system remains inert, chances are some other scan software can still point out what has been missed.

- What’s in a free virus scan that’s not there in our regular antivirus software? That is the varying services of each vendors; the capability of scanning on the fly; and also the vast availability. Put that aside, I don’t think there is any.

- How effective is it? If we are to use this service as a preventive measure, the ineffectiveness is obvious. This is really a best choice for systems without any antivirus installed. For some reason, I fall into this category of PC users. Every now and then we should run a scan to check if any virus has contracted any files.

In the end, what should we decide?

The judgement is completely up to you to decide. To me, for the readiness upon request and minimum installation requirements, an Online Free Virus Scan is rather effective, being a virtual system user as I am. Nevertheless, should I survive the computing world without virtual computer, I wold rather go with an antivirus. (I currently insist on using a clean system, without any antivirus software installed. It’s LIGHT , and preserves the world)

I guess you have been in a situation where you are convinced to buy certain goods but regretted later when you’ve got home. I have. I usually categorize that kind of marketing as high pressure psychological selling, because the salesman usually applies high level of psychological pressure on the prospect to finally succeed in selling the goods. Trojans and worms are more and more into these practices of iplementing psychological pressure in order to compromise a victim. Such techniques implements but not limited to the exploitation of human basic psychologies: Curiosity, Greed, and Fear. How can we tell when a virus or a malware is psychologically pressing us and attempts to get into our system? These are things to beare of to help us tell just prior to their attempts to compromise our system: 1. Is it forcing us to run or download something, for fear of something such as getting our computer infected by a trojan, computer virus or worm? If it is while it’s not at all the active running antivirus software we have installed, we can say that it is definitely a virus, malware, or even a worm. 2. Is it offering some software solution that looks like it’s too good to be true and free at the same time? At times, it can be just a marketing hype, but it’s a best practice to beware about the urge to download or agreeing on something it is offering. Downloading a program or just opening a page containing java script or flash application would be enough to get our computer compromised by a computer virus, malware, or trojan. 3. Are we aware of the brands (if any)? Is it a rather famous antivirus brand, or just some very popular one, but not an antivirus? At times the viruses take advantage of well known brand names only to trick uncautious people. Do you remember the “XP Antivirus 2008″ virus disguising Antivirus Software Downloads? Its high success rate really was boosted by the “XP” brand, riding on Windows XP’s brand. Lately, a brand new release of the virus is already spreading, one that we know as “XP Antivirus 2009″. 4. Always best to double-check weather the URL or domain name we type is right to make sure it is safe. This must be done if you want to avoid deliberately entering into a phishing site, which is way worse than simply contracting virus. A rogue site is an latest psychological scam in that it tricked visitors into thinking that it’s the right site they’re searching to visit. Everything they have on the page would in turn then be taken for granted by unsuspecting visitors. 5. If you are uncertain of those that I have mentioned, talk to a friend that knows more about this matter. There should be at the very least something certain about it, like a popular brand name of antivirus or computer security software solution, the exact URL or at least domain name of the target site, what should be classified into being too good to be true and what not. The success rate this way of contagion has is surprisingly high, assuming the wide availability of legitimate computer security software and antivirus or Internet Security Software available in the market. This is why I always urge everyone that asked for my opinion on computer security to continuously learn about it, even for just a small bit of knowledge. Because with knowledge only although a tiny bit, that we can really sustain our safety against malware.

In case you think that someone has stolen your identity, the first thing you need to do is to not wait and make a complaint about it. Time is crucially important here, and you really do not want to wait. There are properly placed authorities to whom you can make these identity theft complaints. These people will take all due care that the complaints are tended to and that you get the proper solution for your distress.

First, they will make sure that you are not making some kind of mistake. When they have convinced themselves that your identity has indeed been stolen, they will go ahead and take all measures to nab the criminal and help you.

Identity Theft what it is

Of course, before you think about making an identity theft complaint, you will need to know what it is about. You have to understand what constitutes an identity theft so that you are sure you will get redress. In today’s times, identity fraud has become quite common and even the complaints made here are highly increasing.

The complaints about Internet fraud that are being made each day number in thousands. That is definitely a huge number, but you have to know that not all of these are genuine cases. In most cases, the people who make the complaints are mistaken. They think that someone is playing with their vital information when actually it is they themselves who have forgotten that they have made a particular purchase or something like that so this would be a accidental identity theft complaint.

You will certainly not get in trouble for this because it is not actually the police that you are contacting when you are putting in a fraud and identity theft complaint, so you don’t have to worry about that, and it is always better to be safe than sorry when it comes to a crime like identity theft.

The authorities are not going to mind if you put in a fraud and identity theft complaint if it turns out to be nothing,

They realize that such complainants are being cautious and just ascertaining that their identities haven’t really been stolen. However, there are some ways in which you can ensure that your identity is kept safe.

Keep track of your credit report. This is a very important thing to do. Check and double check it whenever you receive it. Make sure there are no glaring inconsistencies in it. This is the best way to ensure that your identity is not being stolen.

Computer viruses are a hot topic that seems to affect everyone who owns a computer system, whether at work or at home. The companies that produce software programs that catch and delete these computer viruses are constantly updating their databases for virus types and definitions so that they can better protect your system against all the newest viruses. Creating virus endorsement programs is a multi-billion dollar business that is growing more and more everyday. The number of viruses being created and uploaded to the Internet is growing at an astounding rate of a new one every eighteen seconds! This definitely keeps the virus endorsement companies on their toes with research and development.

Because these viruses copy themselves to any computer system they come in contact with, the spread of viruses throughout a computer network or the Internet is a very fast and deadly thing to happen to your computer. Because computer viruses are a hot topic, they routinely are the subject of magazine articles and forum topics online. While some viruses do nothing more than frustrate you with pop-up ads or other messages, others are completely malicious and set out from the start to destroy the files and operating systems of your computer.

Of the 53,000 viruses that have been identified and classed, more than 80 percent of them have been classed as malicious and capable of harming your computer system or data files. These computer viruses behave in much the same way as biological viruses by contaminating any computer systems they come in contact with. These self-executing programs are generally very small and work at harmful the way your computer works or by harmful or completely removing key system files.

When mechanism viruses have been a prohibited topic, some-more as well as some-more people find out about a mortal energy of these programs. In this approach a great most people find out about pathogen insurance programs as well as pour out to get newest insurance programs or they safeguard which their mechanism pathogen insurance is up to date. Most repository as well as headlines articles about mechanism viruses have an outcome of infrequently panicking people in to desiring which their computers have been during risk. Having a great anti-virus module as well as stream updates is a single of a most appropriate ways to strengthen your mechanism complement opposite pathogen attacks.

This contingency additionally is joined with great record day to day such as scanning all downloaded files with an anti-virus module prior to opening them. It is regularly a great suspicion to take a time to safeguard which a record we suspicion we were downloading is in truth a record we have. For instance, a record which labels itself as a film record as well as is reduction than a single megabyte in distance is not a film file. Film files have been in all scarcely a thousand times which distance as well as therefore, a record we have downloaded is most expected not a film record as well as might in actuality be a mechanism virus.

All it takes is a single chairman permitting a little executable files they have been sent to open as well as begin replicating itself by a network of computers to have hold up Hell for which company. Pathogens attacks can ravage bureau systems really fast ensuing in mislaid income as well as consumer certainty which can begin an approach which bonds in which association have been traded ensuing in even serve monetary losses. Which is since it is so critical for incomparable businesses to have extensive mechanism pathogen insurance programs in place?

These virus programs are much more detailed and powerful than the anti-virus programs that many consumers have protecting their computer systems. Because the fallout from a virus attack is much more financially damaging to a large corporation, the virus protection program needs to be much more robust and capable of protecting multiple systems within the corporation. Computer viruses are a hot topic among businesses simply because of the way that they can affect the company financially.

All of us want to protect ourselves. At home we have fire alarms, sprinklers and burglar alarms to keep our families safe. Car alarms and GPS for our cars keep our car and its occupants safe, and the rest of the time we are on the lookout for runaway cars, buses and those who would try to do us harm. For the same reasons we choose to protect our sensitive documents from anyone who would want to use the contents for something untoward.

Adding a password to your files is something that is simple and easy to do, once you know where to look. For the best protection you will want a password that is at least 12 characters long and contains a combination of letter, numbers and symbols. This will ensure that a thief cannot easily gain access to your files.

The important thing is that no matter what password you choose for your files, you need to keep track of it. Nothing is more aggravating than trying to get into an important file and realizing that you forgot the password. Although writing down your passwords seem like a bad idea, if you are prone to forgetfulness it may be necessary. Above all you want to make sure that your passwords never fall into the wrong hands.

This is where you need a password recovery tool. There are several different types of software available that can help you get into your files. While some of them are free, you will have much better success with a licensed version of password recovery software as they offer more options and have more streamlined recovery algorithms.

Password recover software use several different methods in order to guess the right password for a file. One of these methods is to go through the dictionary and try every word in it. If you know that you always use a number or symbol in the password you can optimize the search to include them.

To start the program will work through the dictionary, combining each word with numbers or symbols if you request. If your password is an actually word, then you should have some success here. Otherwise the software recovery tool will carry on to the next step, which is to try combinations of letters, numbers and symbols until it finds the right combination. The more complicated your password is, the longer the program will take to find the answer.

While there are many software programs offered for no charge, most people will have little success in getting these programs to access their files. Investing a few dollars will get you a much more streamlined program that will give you a much better chance of accessing your file, and in less time.

Password recover software can be used on many different types of files and even Windows itself, should you forget how to access your computer. Remember that you should only be using password recovery software to access your own files, as using it to open someone elses documents is illegal.

The next time you are password protecting your documents, consider opening a secure document and saving your passwords in there, then make sure that the password you place on that document is 1) easy to remember and 2) complicated enough that a software recovery program couldn’t open it. Then you wont have to worry about lost passwords or unprotected files.

If your machine is infected with adware, you probably know how much annoying it really is. This phenomenon usually becomes real when you start using the internet more often. But if you are reading this article, I’m sure that your PC is suffering from Adware or Spyware. Spyware is simply the worst case scenario of Adware where your personal information is also leaked out. It’s bad news!

Adware simply installs itself into your PC and starts throwing up unwanted ads, popups and banners. If your computer is running weird, then it’s not the Adware. It’s bad. They are called spyware and malicious scripts. Your PC will go nuts with these things.

It usually gets into your machine when you install a free program like a shareware. Shareware programs are usually where you find these kinds of Adware. The owners of shareware give away software free for a reason… They get to you in your desktop without paying for advertising. It’s a clever marketing trick, but it’s not clever anymore. It’s just a pain. Of course if you had a real time security like AdwareAlert software, it usually detects these stuff and removes them.

Even some of the more popular softwares tend to install adware like Zango, AOL messenger, Zango, Gator, Weatherbug etc… This shows that even though Adware maybe legit, it’s not nice!

Install free software and shareware programs, and you are guaranteed to get adware. Use your common sense. You never get anything for free.

Yet, no matter how protective you maybe, few of them just get right through, and it can be close to impossible when trying to remove it. You get security programs to remove adware, spyware and other malicious codes.

For the same reasons we choose to protect our sensitive files from anyone who would want to use the contents for something untoward.

Anyone who keeps financial data such as credit card or bank account numbers should ensure they password protect their documents. Additionally, if you work in an office and handle sensitive information about your company or any of your clients these documents should be protected as well. Doing so can save you a lot of trouble should the files fall into the wrong hands.

There is one small downside to password protecting your documents ” what happens if you lose the password to a file? While you probably like to write down the passwords to your documents somewhere, this is not very safe as someone could find them and all your documents would be at risk. At the same time if you dont write them down you run the risk of losing all your important data if you forget the passwords associated with the files.

This is where you need a password recovery tool. There are several different types of programs available that can help you get into your files. While some of them are free, you will have much better success with a licensed version of password recovery software as they offer more options and have more streamlined recovery algorithms.

Next the software will try different combinations of letters, numbers and symbols to get into the file. If your password was short and simple then it should have no problem getting in, but if you use long, complicated passwords the software will need some time, and there is no guarantee that it will be able to find the right combination.

Remember that you should only be using password recovery software to access your own files, as using it to open someone elses documents is against the law.

When you are password protecting your documents, think about saving your password in a secure document that uses one password to open but includes all your passwords. This way is very simple to remember and not very complicated to retrieve if you do. This way there is never a moment where you cant open a document or file.

Business continuity is a matter of business survival. If you?re not sure what it is, it is what you do to make sure everything is up and running in the case of a disaster. Many companies have a business continuity plan, which means they will be prepared in case of an earthquake, a power surge, or another disaster that could keep them from doing business.

A business continuity service can help a business continue their business operations. This is usually because data center storage and other functions are taken care of off-site and usually from another place in the world. However, what this does is allow the business to retrieve the information that they need. In many cases, customers are not even aware that there is a problem. They don?t need to know that there is a problem. All they need to know is that their situation was taken care of accordingly. They don?t have to know about anything that is going on within your business.

Evaluating a business continuity service

To find the right business continuity service, you need to evaluate the service. First, you need to look at the continuity managed services they offer. If they offer things that you don?t need, then see if they can offer you just what you need. A lot of business continuity services have plans that you can choose from. Basically, you are able to customize your plan to what you need. Only you know what your business truly needs, so you should be able to have a choice within reason.

To really find out if they are everything they say that they are, you can check with the Better Business Bureau or similar organization in their area. You can also check online reviews and such. Someone somewhere has most likely said something about the business. They have either talked about how well the business did for them or how horrible their service was. Yes, it is very hard to satisfy everyone, but you can more or less pinpoint negative reviews or statements that are from hard to please people.

As you continue on in their research, make sure you ask the business continuity service a lot of questions. Ask them any questions about things that concern you. Also see about a trial period. Although it is slim that you?ll experience a disaster, you can possibly arrange a testing of the service to see how well they come through for you. You want to see how seamless they are when it comes to continuing on your services when your business is dealing with a disaster.

The advantages

The advantages are quite evident. First of all, you’re not alone in dealing with a disaster. Second, you do not have to answer a thousand questions from your employees. Third, your employees will know more about what is going on. That means they are less likely to panic when disaster strikes. The last thing you need during a disaster is a lot of unnecessary panic. This can make things worse than what they already are.

The disaster itself is hard enough the way it is, so it is only right that you employ a business continuity service to ensure that things go as smooth as possible. You need to focus on those other things that are affected. You shouldn’t have to worry about whether or not you’re entering into a situation that could take years to recover from. Then again, there are times when a business encounters a disaster that they never recover from. With a business continuity service in place and a plan, disaster can be averted.
