It is easy for anyone to understand that there is a large variety of registry cleaners that can be purchased to treat computer problems. Different programs will be able to offer varying options for the treatment of the problem. But if you are not experienced with these types of programs, you may be unsure about what you should use. Some of the accompanying information may be able to help you understand the use of these programs further.

For the most part, when there are repeated issues occurring on a computer, it is likely because of the registry. This can happen when there have been numerous programs installed into the computer, which later edit the registry in some format. If the registry never updates after the deletion of these programs or there are too many conflicting keys in the registry, it results in problems.

In order to treat the problem, registry cleaner programs were created. Though all of these programs will claim to make solving the problem easier, you are not going to get the same options with all of them. There will be various approaches and solutions as you examine different types of programs. Because of this, you need to research about what each program can offer your computer before you decide to buy it.

Some computers may require an in depth cleaning of the registry. In these cases, you might find that you will need to use the program repeatedly to help you solve all of the problems. If you are using more professional or reliable software, you might be able to pick and choose settings that will allow you to get everything in the first run.

Almost every registry cleaner will have to scan your computer before you can take any sort of action to fix the problem. If the program isn’t scanning the computer, it has no way of knowing what the issues are with your registry. You should consider using a cleaner that will be able to tell you about the specific problems that are in your registry. This way you will know what programs you should avoid installing into your computer again in the future.

It is always a concern to choose a program that is known to be trustworthy and safe for your computer. Though there are many various programs that are promoted, not all of them are going to be able to give you the top results that you need. You may also discover that there are a number of programs on the internet which are promoted as cleaners, but only cause more problems because they are a form of malware.

If you suspect that you are having computer crashes because of your registry, trying a few cleaner programs may be able to help you. Overall, the use of registry cleaners can be useful and important for helping you to solve problems with your computer. It is important to understand that these programs may not be able to solve every issue you are having. If you continue to have computer crashes, you may want to allow a technician to analyze your computer.

Now you can get all the information and details you require to make your computer run more efficiently when you use the best registry cleaners available. When you see the registry cleaners reviewed, you will be able to select the best cleaner for your system.

If you have switched over from XP to Vista you surly will have known by now that Vista is much slower. This lack of speed has to do with Vista dedicating a lot of its resources to trying to “look pretty”. Making the operating system look nice is great and all but when it comes time to actually get some work done it can be a huge problem. In this article I am going to show you two quick ways to make your Vista perform a it faster but you are going to have to be willing to sacrifice some of Vistas looks in order to get more function. Keep in mind that there really is no point in having your computer look really nice since you are the only person that is really going to be seeing it.

If you are using the Home Premium, Enterprise, Business or Ultimate more likely than not you have the Aero effect turned on. This effect is designed to make your computers windows have a glass like effect that looks cool. It also allows you to have Windows Flip 3D which is just a fancy version of the Alt + Tab combination which allows you to cycle through your currently opened programs. If your not sure what the Flip 3D is, just open a few programs, hold down the Windows Button and press the Tab key a few times – that’s Windows Flip 3D. Now hold down the Alt key and press the Tab key a few times – that’s the old way of cycling through your programs. Here’s how to get rid of the Aero effect:

What your going to want to do now is to click Start, click on the Control Panel and then on the left hand side make sure that the Control Panel Home is selected. Now click on Appearance and Personalize, click on the Personalize link, click on the Windows Color and Appearance and at the bottom of the window select “Open classic appearance properties for more color options”. A new window should appear and in this window where it has the Color Scheme drop down box just select Windows Vista Basic. Now click Apply and then OK and this should turn off the Aero effect.

One of the biggest features that Vista has that is pretty much useless is the sidebar. Unless you are actually using the Windows gadgets on the sidebar regularly then its probably best that you get rid of it. It literally serves no purpose to the average user except to make your computers desktop look nice. Here’s the process:Right click on the windows sidebar icon in the System Tray and select the properties option from the drop down menu ( if your not sure what the system tray is, its that little group of icons in the bottom right hand corner). Now, in the Windows Sidebar Properties dialog box uncheck the box that says “Start Sidebar when Windows Starts” and select Apply and then OK. Now just right click on the Windows Sidebar Icon in the system tray again and select Exit.

By doing both of these things you have now freed up your computer of some resources which will allow you to get more work done faster.

Malware is basically any piece of software that enters into your computer without you knowing with the intention of harming your computer. Spyware on the other hand is software that is used to collect personal information on you like your passwords, username and credit card numbers. This is why protecting yourself against both is a very important task that should not be overlooked, but for the purposes of this article were going to focus more on talking about how to protect yourself from malware.

A lot of computers actually have malware on them without the users even knowing about it, and to make matters worse, malware is one of the biggest reasons as to why your computer may be running slowly. If you are concerned about the speed of your computer, you are probably going to want to look into removing the malware from your computer. I personally use 2 different pieces of software to protect myself against malware. One is used to prevent malware from getting into the computer and the other is used to scan and remove malware from my hard drive.

The first main program that I use is called Malware Bytes Anti-Malware (if you are intrested in them, just do a Google search for them). This program is the one that I use to scan my whole computer to try and find any malware infections on the computer and it also removes them. Now, when you have downloaded the program, just perform a full scan so that it look through all of the files on your hard drive to see if they are malware or malware related. Once the scan is done and you want to do another scan in the future, a simple quick scan should work just fine.

The next program that I rely on is called Spyware Blaster (if you are interested just do a Google search for it). This is the program that is used to protect your computer by trying to stop programs from finding their way into your computer. Now, all you have to do is to just install the program on your computer and it will give you full protection. All you have to do once it is installed is to make sure to click on the “Protection Status” button and then select Enable All Protection. There is one big downside to using the free version of this software – you have to manually go in and update it. To update the software, just click on the “Updates” button and then select “Check for Updates”.

I once ran a scan on a users computer and found 270 infected objects. The user had no clue that there was malware running on his computer and was shocked that I was able to show him this report. This is why is it critical that you should run scans on your computer regularly.

Data backup and recovery is one of the most overlooked parts of a company’s IT structure. With all of the technology available today, the absence of even the most elementary backup solution is a mortal sin in regard to the business technology universe. There are affordable backup and data recovery systems in every price range, so even companies with limited budgets can afford an elementary system at the very least. Also many computer services firms now offer backup and data recovery systems as integral parts of their managed IT services.

Some things to consider when thinking about your backup and disaster recovery solution(s):

1. What happens if I delete a file?
2. Where is my email stored and is it backed up?
3. What if my computer crashes? Even if my data is saved how long will it take me to rebuild my computer to a functioning state?
4. Is all of my backup data located in the same physical location?
5. Will a catastrophe wipe out my backup solution i.e. a fire?
6. Does my business count on any one system for business critical functions? How long can my business operate without a functioning system? Does my current backup solution accomodate that expectation?
7. Does someone in our company know how to retrieve information off backups?
8. Are my backups tested so I know they work?
9. Are my backups monitored so I know if they are ever failing?
10. Is the backup data media (i.e. hard drives or tapes) transferred in a secure, controlled manor since it contains all data for my entire business?

This list covers about 1/4 of the questions that you should review when it comes to a practical backup and disaster recovery solution so if you haven’t asked yourself these questions, start today! If you are confused, contact a local computer services provider which should be able to assist your company.

It does not matter whether you’re a student, a banker or just someone searching for the perfect place to safekeep photos. What matters is that you know the benefits that the best online backup services can offer you. If you are simply after enough space or if you are worried about damaging your files, you will find out that the best place to keep them is not at everybody’s easy reach. Most file backup companies have bunkers – most of which are nearly impervious to disasters – making it impossible to find a safe place to store your files with. And yet, finding the right company which will work best for you can be a little challenging.

First is the price. Most online backup services are priced about the same, around per month, which you can opt to pay monthly or at the discounted annual fee. But that’s just for the basic service. You can also avail of other additional services like network backup for an added fee. On the other hand, there are also online backup services that come for free, for some companies on a limited trial basis, and for others, for a limited storage capacity. While these offers are not uncommon and are done for promotional purposes, be wary of those backup services that are offered at no cost at all. While they need not cost a lot, the online backup solutions shouldn’t come totally free or you would wonder how the company can give reliable service.

File accessibility is also another factor to consider. Being able to retrieve your files immediately would not be such a major issue if you’re just looking to have copies of old photos printed, but for a student who needs access to his notes as soon as possible or for an office employee who sometimes brings work at home, even a day of waiting could be too long. You would therefore want an online backup service that can best respond to this need. Different online storage companies have varying policies when it comes to file restoration so be sure to raise these concerns before signing up.

You also want to make sure that you can use the software that most of these companies require you to work with. Since each company has its own system, you often have to deal with different levels of user-friendliness. If the program you have to work with is written in a hard to understand way or even extremely technical, you may not be able to work with it. The idea of backing up online is to give you the protection you need without wasting your time so be sure the company has a decent backup wizard in their software suite.

Lastly, you need a secure service. Most companies offer encryption of your stored information as it travels between your computer and theirs. However, some companies can offer more than that. You can find companies which scatter your files across their services making it impossible for any outsider to decipher any important information. You may also choose to put a password on your files. All these added services work together to give you the top-level security that you need. But to make sure that a service is right for your needs, just read a few reviews, like the Carbonite backup review.

For some people, backing up computer information does not seem very necessary. After all, they’re not bankers or government officials with millions of important information to protect. However, personal e-mails, pictures and notes on your drives should not be taken any less seriously. Just like a banker’s file of finances, every personal file of photo or of just about anything can hold wonderful memories of you and your loved one. Losing these things may not have a great impact on anyone else but you owe it to yourself to protect these important bits of info and backup your computer. Safeguarding your computer files is very important especially in the digital age when every person can put so much about himself on his computer.

Traditional ways of backing up one’s files have been developed over the years, and for many people, these seemed to work just fine. A common backup method used is buying a large stack of floppy disks or more recently CDs, copying your files into them, labeling all disks for organization and for easier retrieval when the need arises, and finally, storing away everything. You somehow manage to effectively make backup copies of your files but it took a lot of time and effort. Plus, with this method, there’s really no guarantee that a few years down the road, you’ll still have files to retrieve. This type of file storage devices are susceptible to damage caused even by the smallest amounts of water, some scratches, or exposure to magnets.

But technology has come a long way when it comes to storage space. Now, you can buy external hard drives which will plug in to almost any computer you can find and work immediately. And all of your data is organized in folders, just like on your home computer’s built-in drive. No more sorting through stacks of CDs and floppies. You can also get these drives in sizes that were unheard of until recently. Some drives can hold multiple terabytes of data, more than almost anyone could possibly need. For instance one terabyte drive could store over 200,000 photos at 5 megabytes each.

But not everyone wants to run out and buy a new, and often expensive, hard drive. While it lets you keep all of your files with you, which offers some comfort to most people, it can be a bit overwhelming for some people.

The good news is, there are companies which provide user-friendly ways to store your data online. Just one of these is Carbonite backup. Through their services, you can back-up your computer by using their storage devices. You do not have to worry about getting your files hacked because most of these companies house their servers in highly protected areas which make them nearly immune to corruption or damage. Your files are definitely kept safer with them than keeping them inside your office room.

It’s happened to us all – we’ve been working away on a document or project and then a sudden computer crash erases all record of our effort. In much more serious cases, a hard drive crash can mean that you lose access to everything you’ve ever saved. It is just because of this that it can be a good idea to back up your entire hard drive. There are specialist online data backup companies but you can also back up your data manually.

You should begin by deciding where you will be backing up the computer to.Ideally you should use an external hard drive that has enough disk space to store copies of everything that is on your current hard drive. In order to find out how large your external device needs to be, on your windows PC click the right mouse button on the hard drive in ‘My Computer’ then select the ‘Properties’ item in the menu. This will tell you the size of your current hard drive.

Once you have purchased a suitably sized external hard disk, you should get some suitable backup software. You have several options, however Norton Ghost is perfectly suited to the task.

Plug in the USB drive and by following the manufacturers instructions you should then load up the backup software.Once it has loaded, you should then create and run the backup. This may take some time, depending on the size of the hard drive being copied so you should be prepared to wait a while.Once all the data has been copied, check the files and folders on your USB drive to make sure that all the essential files have been copies and that you haven’t overlooked anything.

If this seems like a complicated process then do bear in mind there are lots of online data backup companies that you can make the process much easier for you.

It used to be that you would backup everything on your computer with floppy disks.Today, when one sound or graphics file can easily be larger than the capacity of a disk, it would not be practical to back up even you documents on floppies, let alone your applications. Luckily there are better options including Zip disks, CD writers, tape drives, external hard drives and even online backup services. You can also compress all of your backed up files so they take up less space.Read the following tips and you will be able to find the media that is best suited to your needs.

1) Next, determine the approximate quantity and file sizes you will be backing up.

2) Figure out the quantity and file sizes of any documents or applications you may want to archive permanantly to a backup device or removable media.

3) Plan for that amount of information to grow in the future.

4) You should work out your budget for a backup storage device and removable media to use with it.

5) Consider if you plan to archive photographs or scanned files, need portability of the media or the drive itself, wish to record sound or music for playback on other equipment, or need ease of use.Weigh these factors along with your need to back up the files.

6) Work out the total cost per MB of media for each drive you are considering.zip drives themselves are cheap however the disks aren't.

7) You may want to consider buying a 100MB zip drive if you need limited storage capability (less than 1GB). An external parallel port or USB Zip drive provides the most versatility and portability.Consider buying a 250MB Zip drive if your storage requirements are moderate (a few GB).

8) Buy an internal zip drive if you will only use the drive for backup and you are able to install it by yourself (installation fees add up).

9) You may want to consider buying yourself a CD-RW drive if your storage needs are more moderate and you will regularly back up more than 500MB of data.

10) Buy a Jaz drive or even a tape backup drive if you will be backing up large amounts of data regularly.

11) Buy an external hard disk if you will need a lot of space, wont be keeping old backups and dont need portability.

12) If you require additional security, data protection and the ability to recover your data quickly then online data backup should be a serious consideration.

There are many ways that you can save your data in your PC. You can either invest on an external drive, burn them into CDs or use flashdrives or you can look for a data recovery facility somewhere near or within your area. Sometimes, it’s best to find some expert for this type of concern because you can never tell what can go wrong, correct? And the last thing that any PC user can think is to lose their data. It’s okay to lose your programs. You can always uninstall these software anytime you want. But your data? No way, Jose. If you lose your data and you don’t have a backup, you lose your life or you may have a backup but you’re not really sure if it is safe. You may have the latest in data recovery and back-up but if you’re not sure what you’re doing, then, leave it to professionals and here are some of them that you might want to know.

If you’re living near or within the area of Houston, then, you need to find an expert ala data recovery Houston, TX-style kind of recovery and backup. You might not be aware of this right now, but there are a handful of data recovery companies in this area and all you need to do is go to a directory site and find the one that can offer you data security services that you prefer.

Now, California residents, on the other hand, can also avail the services of a data recovery and backup company the easy or the convenient way because of the existence of many data recovery San Diego, CA experts that have been in this kind of service for years now. Ever since the advent of PC computing, these companies have been in existence already and many more are still sprouting in the area of California.

Last but not the least, if you are somewhere in Washington and you feel your data files are compromised, then, go and look for a specific data recovery Seattle, WA company that can take care of recovering or backing up your data. You are in a state where the the whole country is being ran and data recovery companies like these are very crucial to the security of important files or data. Today, you know how it feels like living in Seattle and you have lots of persons who can aid you with your data recovery and backup needs.

What is Adware? Adware is any computer program that displays advertisements while they are running. These advertisements can be displayed in your web browser, in a pop-up window, in special toolbars, or within the host program. Adware can also gather specific information about you like your habits or your interests and then send through a background internet connection without letting you know about it. This allows the vendors of the adware to send you targeted advertisements and collect general statistics.

Anti-Spyware and Registry Anti-Spyware is third party software that constantly watches over the operating system. It also scans the system on a regular basis or preset intervals such as every time the system boots or shuts down. It mainly scans the activity of Internet Explorer. If it detects any activity not initiated by the user it immediately sounds an alarm and removes the cause of the activity, the Spyware. Once the Spyware has been removed the remnants must be cleaned from the registry. Free Spyware Adware remover tools can do the job efficiently. This software scans the registry for Spyware and redundant entries and deletes these entries. If traces of Spyware are left in the registry they will serve to slow down the system and may also download the Spyware again from the Internet. A Spyware removal utility is another free Spyware removal software that scans and cleans the registry very efficiently. This free Spyware Adware removal tool also has a registry backup function to restore the registry to its original state if things go awry.

One of the first things people do when they get a spyware or adware infection is they download a free software that promises to remove the unwanted infection. This is absolutely one of the worst things you can do. These free downloads will search for and remove the unwanted infections your computer has, but right after doing so they will usually download their own form of spyware right back into your computer. This is not only a waste of time, it can make your computer worse off then when it started.

With the astonishing growth of adware and spyware on the internet, the struggling economy and the high price of gas, I don’t blame you for looking for something free! But this is not a free service!

It is however, imperative that there be anti-Spyware and anti-virus software on the system to prevent serious and more consistent Spyware and virus attacks. The security settings on the system serve to aid this front-end security software. The firewall settings on Windows wards off many attacks though this is not always effective as third party security software.

Losing data from your computer can actually be an extremely stressful experience. It doesn’t matter if you lose access to business critical data or to a set of photos with sentimental value. Deleting a file by accident or seeing your whole system crash is not a pleasant experience.

Our first reaction if this happens is, to be honest, to panic especially if we do not know what to do, cannot get our system to work at all or do not know whether we can get our data back. For many of us this kind of situation needs the help of a qualified data recovery specialist to help us out.

But, we should take steps to make sure that any damage is minimized here from the start. And, if you talk to any data recovery expert then they will all give the same advice. So, if you have a data loss problem you should make sure to:

#1. Stay calm — in the majority of cases a skilled technician will be able to help you out if you cannot solve the problem yourself. The types of errors, accidental damage and mechanical failure that lead to data loss in the first place can often be sorted out by somebody who knows what they are doing. Your aim here should be to find someone just like that. So, rather than picking the first data recovery service that you can find in a phone book in a panic, try to take time to talk to a couple of service providers. This will help you find the right person for the job at the right cost.

#2. Don’t mess with your system — if your data loss occurs because of a system failure then don’t try and mess with your computer. Do this and you could simply make things a lot worse if you do not know what you are doing. This is especially important if you get specific warning signs such as a burning smell or even signs of smoke. If this happens do not try and turn your computer on. Kicking it, bashing it and shaking it won’t work either here! If you do not have a technical background or some expertise then leave the repair and recovery to somebody who knows what they are doing.

#3. Back-up regularly — in some cases you cannot solve certain data loss problems or you can solve them but you cannot retrieve all of your data. The easiest way to protect your data is to make regular back-ups before a problem occurs. This way you will have a copy of your data that is up to date so it won’t matter to you so much if your system does fail. The peace of mind that this can give you here is absolutely priceless. Remember, you can take the best care of your computer in the world but it is still just a machine and machines can fail with no warning.

Follow these three tips and you’ll find that any data loss that you do have with a system problem will be easier to bear and easier to fix.

by Richard Sachs

If you need to retrieve data that you have lost from your computer or laptop then you may already be looking for some kind of data recovery software to help you do this. There are many different types of packages in the market that claim to help you do this. So, what should you be looking for to help you find the best one for your needs?

The first thing you should do is assess how bad your problem is and whether you are technically capable of handling a complex software solution yourself. If your computer has died completely then a software program that boots it into a DOS mode, for example, may be able to sort the problem out.

But, if you are not confident doing this yourself then you should probably pass your computer over to a computer specialist to have them retrieve your data and sort out your system. Using these kinds of programs when you do not understand what you doing can cause even more damage and give you a decreased chance of getting your data back.

In many cases, however, you will need to use a data recovery software program to simply find files that you have accidentally deleted or lost on your system following a virus or other problem. File deletion on standard computer systems doesn’t actually remove the file from your system. In basic terms the file still exists but you won’t be able to find it as its links will have been taken away when you deleted it.

So, software programs that help with this kind of data recovery may be an option for you to use yourself. If this is the case then you need to work out what kind of files you need to retrieve. Some programs will help you out with different kinds of files but many nowadays will specialize in specific types of file data recovery.

So, for example, you could try out a program that helps you restore files or one that is designed to help you find deleted emails. Other popular programs here include ones that are specifically designed to help you find photos and other kinds of media files that you may have inadvertently lost.

The best way to find the right program to suit you is to look at consumer reviews wherever possible. This will give you an indication of issues such as how easy the software is to use and how it has worked for other people. It’s always best to do this before you buy any kind of software program as it gives you a more realistic view of its advantages and disadvantages.

Finally, before you start using your data recovery software do make sure to read through the instructions/getting started section real well. This will ensure that you do not make any further mistakes and will give you the best chance of getting your files back. If all else fails you can always get a data recovery specialist to look at your problem to see if they can be of any help.

Recover Lost Data Using Online Data Backup Solutions!

Data backup has long been a priority of computer users who need to protect their information.Several years ago floppy disks and CDs were the popular way to save data, with USBs being the preferred means in subsequent years. These have their shortfalls and with the added element of data being lost due to human error, a secure alternative is needed. What happens in businesses where losing data can have significantly damaging consequeunces?

What is Online Data Backup?

Online data backup solutions are a proven alternative to the traditional storage of valuable data. The user software is installed on the PC or server which is to be backed up.The software enables the IT manager to select which data to be backed up and when. It then manages the connection to the internet and the encryption of the data to be backed up before it is transferred to secure data centres.

These data centres are in different geographical locations and your data will be mirrored at each of these sites in real time, adding an extra level of backup. In the event of data being lost on your system, the online backup provides a simple method to view and restore the lost files.

What are the advantages?

One of the most obvious reasons to back up data online is to save space in the office. As well as storing your data at another site, data recovery solutions are highly secure and ensure that your data is safe.Data is encrypted using 128 bit encryption (military grade) and transferred to A-grade secure sites which are guarded with security cameras, ID access controls, backup power generators and firewalls.customers are given a secret password, account number and encryption key to ensure that only they can access and recover their data.

If you are rarely in the same location, your data can be accessed 24 hours a day via a web browser when you are travelling away from the office. No additional hardware is needed and your data will still be backed up using the existing internet connection.

Online data backup solutions offer a high level of securty and convenience at an affordable cost. The monthly fee means uou don’t need to pay for a license and there is no set up fee. There are no staff that require paying or tape storage costs. The cost of storing your data is proportional to how critical it is. The technology used to store inactive files such as those sitting on the data server would cost less than the storage space used to backup the ultra critical data which requre extra levels of security and access.

Are there any limitations?

Unsurprisingly, online data backup requires an internet connection – preferably a broadband (ADSL, Cable, DSL, Leased line) connection that can handle large volumes of data. The initial backup of all your data can take some time, however subsequent backups of new and saved data will be incremental and subsequently much faster.

Why should my company use it?

Online backup solutions are used by a variety of industry sectors from branch offices to national govenment. Basically any business that needs a degree of business continuity, has an internet connection and realises the importance of keeping it’s information and data secure. It’s a commonly used phrase, but hindsight IS a marvellous thing and too often it is the case that companies dont realise what theyve lost until it’s gone. Make sure you arent one of them.

Disaster can strike at any moment within your business, which is why you should have a good disaster recovery plan in place. Without a good plan in place, then it is fair to say that your staff will be running around, wondering what to do next. That is not a situation you want to find yourself in. You want business to continue as usual while your company figures out how to figure out a particular disaster. Whether that is data center failure or a natural disaster, you have to have a plan in place so that you don’t lose your customers. You would be surprised at how much money a company can lose in just a matter of days from when a disaster strikes.

When you have a disaster recovery plan in place, you are doing what is necessary to make sure that your business can serve customers to the best of its ability. Even if it cannot service all, serving some can make an incredible difference. A company that does not have a disaster recovery plan in place is a company that can go out of business in a heartbeat. This is because their customers were not aware of the situation and thought the company was giving them bad service.

Types of testing

There are several different types of testing that you can use when testing a disaster recovery plan. You can do walkthrough testing, simulation testing, checklist testing, full interruption testing, and parallel testing.

Many companies decide to go ahead with a checklist to then proceed to a simulation test. The simulation test is important so that employees know what to do when a disaster actually occurs. The company may decide to do a full interruption test while doing a simulation test, but that really depends on if the company has the type of budget that will allow for this type of testing.

Testing your plan

There are many different disasters that can take place. You may have a fire in the building, you may have some sort of natural disaster such as an earthquake, or your entire data center can fail. Although data centers are very reliable and it is rare that they fail, it does tend to be the most common failure. Suddenly, employees are unable to retrieve customer information. That is why you need to check the following with your disaster recovery plan:

- The feasibility of your recovery plan – Making sure that backup facilities are feasible – Ensure the adequacy of the procedures and make sure teams are working on their part – Ensure the training of team managers – Providing all employees with the means to maintain and update the recovery plan – Making sure an acceptable amount of time to recover has been established – Ensure that every location within the company is prepared – Verify the cost to perform the test to ensure that the budget is adhered to

From there, you need the entire staff to go into “pretend” mode and simulate that a disaster is really occurring. For example, the data center failure recovery plan may be the first one that you want to test. Now, if you are on a strict budget when conducting your test, you may have to work on testing multiple scenarios at once so that all you have to do is one test. You may require two if you have a lot of issues that need fixed. Once they are fixed, it is very important to test them to make sure they will work. Once you have determined that you have a solid plan, you can be rest assured that you’ll be in good shape when a disaster actually occurs.

There’s more to the data protection business than you first might guess. Take a look at any of the sites of the major players and you’re sure to see offerings in the online backup software field and Business Class Backup Services that will impress, but to be truly on top of the market, the best of these places needs to have some strong customer service skills as well.

Flexibility

And the best of these customer service profiles need to be flexible. It’s not just about having a phone line that clients can call 24/7 but it’s also about what you offer on your site that separates you from the competition. Ask yourself a few questions to make sure that you’re anticipating customer needs.

1. Do you offer step by step instructions right on the website? Remember that most people want to at least have the option of being able to do it themselves before they call anyone. Of course you need to offer up the phone line as well, but make sure to present the do it yourself option first.

2. Offer a variety of billing options. Annual, quarterly, and monthly options generally appeal to everyone and by offering this kind of variety, you’ve let the client know that you’re flexible before you’ve even had the pleasure of talking with them.

You need to remember that not everyone that wants to know more about your online backup service will be an expert. They might not even have the right questions to ask at first so you’ll need to remember that by laying out some options and other information in front of them, you’ll be able to lay a foundation where they feel welcome and at ease about pursuing a business relationship with you.

It’s even a good idea to try and be proactive and answer a few of their questions in another section before they even ask. For example a Why Backup Offsite section will be one of the first places that someone new and inexperienced might go.

by Albert McZeally

All of us want to protect ourselves. At home we have fire alarms, sprinklers and burglar alarms to keep our families safe. Car alarms and GPS for our cars keep our car and its occupants safe, and the rest of the time we are on the lookout for runaway cars, buses and those who would try to do us harm. For the same reasons we choose to protect our sensitive files from anyone who would want to use the contents for something untoward.

Anyone who keeps financial data such as credit card or bank account numbers should ensure they password protect their documents. Additionally, if you work in an office and handle sensitive information about your company or any of your clients these documents should be protected as well. Doing so can save you a lot of trouble should the files fall into the wrong hands.

There is one small downside to password protecting your documents ” what happens if you lose the password to a file? While you probably like to write down the passwords to your documents somewhere, this is not very safe as someone could find them and all your documents would be at risk. At the same time if you dont write them down you run the risk of losing all your important data if you forget the passwords associated with the files.

This is where you need a password recovery tool. There are several different types of programs available that can help you get into your files. While some of them are free, you will have much better success with a licensed version of password recovery software as they offer more options and have more streamlined recovery algorithms.

Password recover software use several different methods in order to guess the right password for a file. One of these methods is to go through the dictionary and try every word in it. If you know that you always use a number or symbol in the password you can optimize the search to include them.

Next the software will try different combinations of letters, numbers and symbols to get into the file. If your password was short and simple then it should have no problem getting in, but if you use long, complicated passwords the software will need some time, and there is no guarantee that it will be able to find the right combination.

While there are many software programs offered for no charge, most people will have little success in getting these programs to access their files. Investing a few dollars will get you a much more streamlined program that will give you a much better chance of accessing your file, and in less time.

Password recover software can be used on many different types of files and even Windows itself, should you forget how to access your computer. Remember that you should only be using password recovery software to access your own files, as using it to open someone elses documents is against the law.

When you are password protecting your documents, think about saving your password in a secure document that uses one password to open but includes all your passwords. This way is very simple to remember and not very complicated to retrieve if you do. This way there is never a moment where you cant open a document or file.

Have you ever thought about what you would lose on your computer if it crashed tonight? You had a fire, a virus, or someone stole your computer?

In the digital age we live in, people pretty much save their lives on their computers! Music, family/child/wedding pictures, term papers, financial documents, legal documents.

This year alone, about half of all computer users will have lost their data. There are 1,000,000,000 computers out there…many, many upset folks!

So, you think you’re safe with just using the standard USB drive? Nope. They burn just as easily in a fire, can still have a virus spread, and they are stolen more than computers are!

Guess what!? No worries. Online Data Backups are your answer!

Online Backups are automatic! Normally takes just a couple of minutes to install. Set the time you want the backup to run. That’s it! You can now relax!

So what about a few bucks a month to know you will never have to lose your data again!

Can you trust that you’ll have that child’s picture when they graduate? All your music files when you lose your iPod? Your tax documents from a couple years ago? Now you can!

by Amy Nutt

Emergencies happen within a business. That is something that is inevitable. You never know when an entire system is going to crash or another disaster may come about. You have to be prepared for these things. If you?re not, then everything will be chaotic. No one will know what to do. In other words, everyone will be running around asking each other, ?What do we do now?? And no one is going to have an answer.

What is a disaster recovery plan?

A disaster recovery plan is that protocol in which your employees follow when a certain disaster comes about. You have to evaluate everything that could go wrong within your business and have a recovery plan for each one of those situations. Since not one situation is the same, there has to be a protocol for each. From there, your employees have to study it and know what to do immediately. This means they need to memorize. There are many disasters that do not allow time for someone to pull out a manual and read what needs to happen. They have to act immediately.

But why have a disaster recovery plan in place? You should have one in place because you need to conduct business in the best manner possible for your customers. Your customers expect seamless service no matter what, so you have to try to make things as convenient for them as possible. If you don?t, then you risk losing their business.

Your disaster recovery plan will include dealing with data loss during a natural disaster, dealing with a system meltdown, power surges, data center crashes and so much more. It depends on what sort of business you are in as to what kind of plans you use. Just make sure that you cover all of your bases and that you also have a master plan so that you can take care of something that may not have a plan. You just never know what could happen.

Statistics

Statistics have shown that businesses with a disaster recovery plan are amongst those that recover better. Those who have experienced some sort of disaster that lasts for more than 10 days will never recover financially. 50% of those companies without a disaster recovery plan will spend so much time making up for lost cash that they will most likely be out of business in 5 years. That is not something you want to have to deal with. The cost of an outage that lasts only a few days is already bad enough. Contracts can be broken, credibility can be lost, and even future customers will never be acquired. These are extreme losses.

So take these statistics to heart so that you know why it is you need a disaster recovery plan. Not one more business needs to go out of business due to an outage, so you need to be on top of things. You need to realize that anything that prohibits you from carrying out your business practices can do irreparable damages. Your customers expect for you to be there for them whenever they need you. There is nothing more frustrating to them than trying to resolve an issue that you can?t resolve because of an outage. If their request is not fulfilled, then they may suddenly become your competitor?s newest customer.

This should be enough to convince you. It is much easier to come up with a disaster recovery plan than to have to deal with a crisis blind. Imagine your entire business being shut down due to something out of your control. Now imagine sitting there with a thousand questions flying at you about what to do.

Mobile computing isn’t only restricted to laptops these days. Portability of data is increasing and it is becoming every more easier to carry around masses of data on USB memory sticks otherwise known as flash memory sticks or pen drives.

Sony patented the term “memory stick” when they came out with a new storage device for their digital cameras and digital files. Original drives were quite small but it was still cutting edge technology, but look where we are today?

Memory sticks allow Pc users to quickly and easily transfer data from one computer to another or to carry their data with them which is all well and good but one of the issues this raises is the sheer amount of data they can hold.

It is nothing to have 2,3 or even 4gb of data just sat on the memory stick dangling on the your key ring, This is more than the average hard drive was capable of holding even only 8 years ago, but every technology has a down side. Due to there portability even though they are quite robust it is quite common to damage a memory stick even to the point of losing all your data which for many is an absolute disaster.

Fortunately for the unlucky ones (which are more than you would guess) memory stick repair is a viable option so if the worse does happen it shouldn’t be the end of the world, even if your memory stick does contain all your data.

In the worse case scenario a good data recovery company can even retrieve data from a microwaved drive or even one that has be submersed, and in some cases even run over, which is a good thing when you consider the amount of data they can hold. There are of course no guarantees that USB memory stick recovery will work but the odds are good so don’t panic if you break your pen drive or memory stick as the situation may not be as bad as it first seems.
