It is easy for anyone to understand that there is a large variety of registry cleaners that can be purchased to treat computer problems. Different programs will be able to offer varying options for the treatment of the problem. But if you are not experienced with these types of programs, you may be unsure about what you should use. Some of the accompanying information may be able to help you understand the use of these programs further.

For the most part, when there are repeated issues occurring on a computer, it is likely because of the registry. This can happen when there have been numerous programs installed into the computer, which later edit the registry in some format. If the registry never updates after the deletion of these programs or there are too many conflicting keys in the registry, it results in problems.

In order to treat the problem, registry cleaner programs were created. Though all of these programs will claim to make solving the problem easier, you are not going to get the same options with all of them. There will be various approaches and solutions as you examine different types of programs. Because of this, you need to research about what each program can offer your computer before you decide to buy it.

Some computers may require an in depth cleaning of the registry. In these cases, you might find that you will need to use the program repeatedly to help you solve all of the problems. If you are using more professional or reliable software, you might be able to pick and choose settings that will allow you to get everything in the first run.

Almost every registry cleaner will have to scan your computer before you can take any sort of action to fix the problem. If the program isn’t scanning the computer, it has no way of knowing what the issues are with your registry. You should consider using a cleaner that will be able to tell you about the specific problems that are in your registry. This way you will know what programs you should avoid installing into your computer again in the future.

It is always a concern to choose a program that is known to be trustworthy and safe for your computer. Though there are many various programs that are promoted, not all of them are going to be able to give you the top results that you need. You may also discover that there are a number of programs on the internet which are promoted as cleaners, but only cause more problems because they are a form of malware.

If you suspect that you are having computer crashes because of your registry, trying a few cleaner programs may be able to help you. Overall, the use of registry cleaners can be useful and important for helping you to solve problems with your computer. It is important to understand that these programs may not be able to solve every issue you are having. If you continue to have computer crashes, you may want to allow a technician to analyze your computer.

Now you can get all the information and details you require to make your computer run more efficiently when you use the best registry cleaners available. When you see the registry cleaners reviewed, you will be able to select the best cleaner for your system.

If you have switched over from XP to Vista you surly will have known by now that Vista is much slower. This lack of speed has to do with Vista dedicating a lot of its resources to trying to “look pretty”. Making the operating system look nice is great and all but when it comes time to actually get some work done it can be a huge problem. In this article I am going to show you two quick ways to make your Vista perform a it faster but you are going to have to be willing to sacrifice some of Vistas looks in order to get more function. Keep in mind that there really is no point in having your computer look really nice since you are the only person that is really going to be seeing it.

If you are using the Home Premium, Enterprise, Business or Ultimate more likely than not you have the Aero effect turned on. This effect is designed to make your computers windows have a glass like effect that looks cool. It also allows you to have Windows Flip 3D which is just a fancy version of the Alt + Tab combination which allows you to cycle through your currently opened programs. If your not sure what the Flip 3D is, just open a few programs, hold down the Windows Button and press the Tab key a few times – that’s Windows Flip 3D. Now hold down the Alt key and press the Tab key a few times – that’s the old way of cycling through your programs. Here’s how to get rid of the Aero effect:

What your going to want to do now is to click Start, click on the Control Panel and then on the left hand side make sure that the Control Panel Home is selected. Now click on Appearance and Personalize, click on the Personalize link, click on the Windows Color and Appearance and at the bottom of the window select “Open classic appearance properties for more color options”. A new window should appear and in this window where it has the Color Scheme drop down box just select Windows Vista Basic. Now click Apply and then OK and this should turn off the Aero effect.

One of the biggest features that Vista has that is pretty much useless is the sidebar. Unless you are actually using the Windows gadgets on the sidebar regularly then its probably best that you get rid of it. It literally serves no purpose to the average user except to make your computers desktop look nice. Here’s the process:Right click on the windows sidebar icon in the System Tray and select the properties option from the drop down menu ( if your not sure what the system tray is, its that little group of icons in the bottom right hand corner). Now, in the Windows Sidebar Properties dialog box uncheck the box that says “Start Sidebar when Windows Starts” and select Apply and then OK. Now just right click on the Windows Sidebar Icon in the system tray again and select Exit.

By doing both of these things you have now freed up your computer of some resources which will allow you to get more work done faster.

Why is your computer slow? Well the answer to that question is beyond the scope of this text but I will tell you that it has to do with your computer building up junk in many different areas in time. Take a look at registry cleaners - they are designed to clean up all of the junk and inefficiencies that build up in your registry to make it faster. The only problem with registry cleaners is that they focus on one area of your computer which will only give you so much of an advantage while there are many different areas of your computer that need to be cleaned.

Why is your computer slow? Well the answer to that question is beyond the scope of this text but I will tell you that it has to do with your computer building up junk in many different areas in time. The more of these areas that you clean up the faster your computer will be – it’s that simple. Take a look at registry cleaners – they are designed to clean up all of the junk and inefficiencies that build up in your registry to make it faster. The only problem with registry cleaners is that they focus on one area of your computer which will only give you so much of an advantage while there are many different areas of your computer that need to be cleaned. This is why using registry cleaners really aren’t a complete solution to making your computer faster – they only clean one small area while there are many different areas that need to be either cleaned or tuned for performance.

Your computer uses it’s RAM as a temporary working place. When some of these files are in RAM they also need a temporary working place of their own and they will use a folder on your hard drive called the temporary folder (or a Temp folder for short). When window’s is done working with these files in your temp folder it deletes them and everything is fine and dandy. The problem arises when you kill a program or when it freezes or hangs. What happens to the files in that folder is that they were never actually removed and after a while of this happening your Temp folder can build up a lot of files that are just slowing your computer down. Here’s a simple procedure to remove them:

If you are running Windows XP on your computer just close all the running files and programs and then click on Start, click on Run and then type %Temp% in the little box and then hit the enter key. Now you’re going to get another small window that will now show you what is in your Temp folder. All you have to do now is to just delete everything that you possibly can in that folder. If for some odd reason it says that you cannot delete a certain file, just skip it and move onto the next one.

For those of you using Windows Vista, close all running programs and files and click Start, type Run in the start menu search box. When the Run window comes up type %Temp% and hit enter. Now delete everything that you see in that folder. If there are some files that you cannot delete, then just ignore them and move onto the next one.

By cleaning up your Temp folder regularly you are first freeing up your computer of hard drive space which will make it run faster in the long run (it will have less files that it will have to manage) and your computer will also have less internal errors.

Malware is basically any piece of software that enters into your computer without you knowing with the intention of harming your computer. Spyware on the other hand is software that is used to collect personal information on you like your passwords, username and credit card numbers. This is why protecting yourself against both is a very important task that should not be overlooked, but for the purposes of this article were going to focus more on talking about how to protect yourself from malware.

A lot of computers actually have malware on them without the users even knowing about it, and to make matters worse, malware is one of the biggest reasons as to why your computer may be running slowly. If you are concerned about the speed of your computer, you are probably going to want to look into removing the malware from your computer. I personally use 2 different pieces of software to protect myself against malware. One is used to prevent malware from getting into the computer and the other is used to scan and remove malware from my hard drive.

The first main program that I use is called Malware Bytes Anti-Malware (if you are intrested in them, just do a Google search for them). This program is the one that I use to scan my whole computer to try and find any malware infections on the computer and it also removes them. Now, when you have downloaded the program, just perform a full scan so that it look through all of the files on your hard drive to see if they are malware or malware related. Once the scan is done and you want to do another scan in the future, a simple quick scan should work just fine.

The next program that I rely on is called Spyware Blaster (if you are interested just do a Google search for it). This is the program that is used to protect your computer by trying to stop programs from finding their way into your computer. Now, all you have to do is to just install the program on your computer and it will give you full protection. All you have to do once it is installed is to make sure to click on the “Protection Status” button and then select Enable All Protection. There is one big downside to using the free version of this software – you have to manually go in and update it. To update the software, just click on the “Updates” button and then select “Check for Updates”.

I once ran a scan on a users computer and found 270 infected objects. The user had no clue that there was malware running on his computer and was shocked that I was able to show him this report. This is why is it critical that you should run scans on your computer regularly.

It is worth mentioning that the market for data loggers and recorders is generally very competitive. This means that those who are looking to purchase these devices can obtain them at very affordable prices. When searching for a data logger and recorder, it is vital to know exactly what purpose you require these devices for. This is because some data loggers have been specifically designed to carry out certain types of measurements and to operate within specific environmental settings. Prospective buyers of data loggers should also consider obtaining additional data logger software like, application software, memory and storage.

One of the primary benefits of using a data logger is the fact that this device can collate and measure a vast number of environmental/atmospheric variables. Moreover, a data logger can be left unattended for prolonged periods of time. Initially, data loggers could only measure variables and not much else. But nowadays, with advancements in technology, these innovative devices usually come with a comprehensive set of software. These data logger software packages allow users to record and analyze all data obtained by the data logger. The recording capabilities of data loggers save users both time and energy because they do not have to monitor the data logger’s measurements at regular intervals. The data obtained can then be downloaded on to a PC or laptop where they can be displayed and analyzed. Furthermore, many data loggers and recorders come with host connection options which include modem dial-up and Ethernet. A temperature data logger is simply a device which can be used to measure temperature over an extensive period of time.

Solely for many who are curious about hollywood films in addition to current movie review you too can check out the site as of this location.

Data backup and recovery is one of the most overlooked parts of a company’s IT structure. With all of the technology available today, the absence of even the most elementary backup solution is a mortal sin in regard to the business technology universe. There are affordable backup and data recovery systems in every price range, so even companies with limited budgets can afford an elementary system at the very least. Also many computer services firms now offer backup and data recovery systems as integral parts of their managed IT services.

Some things to consider when thinking about your backup and disaster recovery solution(s):

1. What happens if I delete a file?
2. Where is my email stored and is it backed up?
3. What if my computer crashes? Even if my data is saved how long will it take me to rebuild my computer to a functioning state?
4. Is all of my backup data located in the same physical location?
5. Will a catastrophe wipe out my backup solution i.e. a fire?
6. Does my business count on any one system for business critical functions? How long can my business operate without a functioning system? Does my current backup solution accomodate that expectation?
7. Does someone in our company know how to retrieve information off backups?
8. Are my backups tested so I know they work?
9. Are my backups monitored so I know if they are ever failing?
10. Is the backup data media (i.e. hard drives or tapes) transferred in a secure, controlled manor since it contains all data for my entire business?

This list covers about 1/4 of the questions that you should review when it comes to a practical backup and disaster recovery solution so if you haven’t asked yourself these questions, start today! If you are confused, contact a local computer services provider which should be able to assist your company.

If you are simply after enough space or if you are worried about damaging your files, you will find out that the best place to keep them is not at everybody’s easy reach. Most file backup companies have bunkers – most of which are nearly impervious to disasters – making it impossible to find a safe place to store your files with. And yet, finding the right company which will work best for you can be a little challenging.

First is the price. Most online backup services are priced about the same, around per month, which you can opt to pay monthly or at the discounted annual fee. But that’s just for the basic service. You can also avail of other additional services like network backup for an added fee. On the other hand, there are also online backup services that come for free, for some companies on a limited trial basis, and for others, for a limited storage capacity. While these offers are not uncommon and are done for promotional purposes, be wary of those backup services that are offered at no cost at all. While they need not cost a lot, the online backup solutions shouldn’t come totally free or you would wonder how the company can give reliable service.

File accessibility is also another factor to consider. Being able to retrieve your files immediately would not be such a major issue if you’re just looking to have copies of old photos printed, but for a student who needs access to his notes as soon as possible or for an office employee who sometimes brings work at home, even a day of waiting could be too long. You would therefore want an online backup service that can best respond to this need. Different online storage companies have varying policies when it comes to file restoration so be sure to raise these concerns before signing up.

You also want to make sure that you can use the software that most of these companies require you to work with. Since each company has its own system, you often have to deal with different levels of user-friendliness. If the program you have to work with is written in a hard to understand way or even extremely technical, you may not be able to work with it. The idea of backing up online is to give you the protection you need without wasting your time so be sure the company has a decent backup wizard in their software suite.

Lastly, you need a secure service. Most companies offer encryption of your stored information as it travels between your computer and theirs. However, some companies can offer more than that. You can find companies which scatter your files across their services making it impossible for any outsider to decipher any important information. You may also choose to put a password on your files. All these added services work together to give you the top-level security that you need. But to make sure that a service is right for your needs, just read a few reviews, like the Carbonite backup review.

For some people, backing up computer information does not seem very necessary. After all, they’re not bankers or government officials with millions of important information to protect. However, personal e-mails, pictures and notes on your drives should not be taken any less seriously. Just like a banker’s file of finances, every personal file of photo or of just about anything can hold wonderful memories of you and your loved one. Losing these things may not have a great impact on anyone else but you owe it to yourself to protect these important bits of info and backup your computer. Safeguarding your computer files is very important especially in the digital age when every person can put so much about himself on his computer.

Traditional ways of backing up one’s files have been developed over the years, and for many people, these seemed to work just fine. A common backup method used is buying a large stack of floppy disks or more recently CDs, copying your files into them, labeling all disks for organization and for easier retrieval when the need arises, and finally, storing away everything. You somehow manage to effectively make backup copies of your files but it took a lot of time and effort. Plus, with this method, there’s really no guarantee that a few years down the road, you’ll still have files to retrieve. This type of file storage devices are susceptible to damage caused even by the smallest amounts of water, some scratches, or exposure to magnets.

But technology has come a long way when it comes to storage space. Now, you can buy external hard drives which will plug in to almost any computer you can find and work immediately. And all of your data is organized in folders, just like on your home computer’s built-in drive. No more sorting through stacks of CDs and floppies. You can also get these drives in sizes that were unheard of until recently. Some drives can hold multiple terabytes of data, more than almost anyone could possibly need. For instance one terabyte drive could store over 200,000 photos at 5 megabytes each.

But not everyone wants to run out and buy a new, and often expensive, hard drive. While it lets you keep all of your files with you, which offers some comfort to most people, it can be a bit overwhelming for some people.

The good news is, there are companies which provide user-friendly ways to store your data online. Just one of these is Carbonite backup. Through their services, you can back-up your computer by using their storage devices. You do not have to worry about getting your files hacked because most of these companies house their servers in highly protected areas which make them nearly immune to corruption or damage. Your files are definitely kept safer with them than keeping them inside your office room.

It’s happened to us all – we’ve been working away on a document or project and then a sudden computer crash erases all record of our effort. In much more serious cases, a hard drive crash can mean that you lose access to everything you’ve ever saved. It is just because of this that it can be a good idea to back up your entire hard drive. There are specialist online data backup companies but you can also back up your data manually.

You should begin by deciding where you will be backing up the computer to.Ideally you should use an external hard drive that has enough disk space to store copies of everything that is on your current hard drive. In order to find out how large your external device needs to be, on your windows PC click the right mouse button on the hard drive in ‘My Computer’ then select the ‘Properties’ item in the menu. This will tell you the size of your current hard drive.

Once you have purchased a suitably sized external hard disk, you should get some suitable backup software. You have several options, however Norton Ghost is perfectly suited to the task.

Plug in the USB drive and by following the manufacturers instructions you should then load up the backup software.Once it has loaded, you should then create and run the backup. This may take some time, depending on the size of the hard drive being copied so you should be prepared to wait a while.Once all the data has been copied, check the files and folders on your USB drive to make sure that all the essential files have been copies and that you haven’t overlooked anything.

If this seems like a complicated process then do bear in mind there are lots of online data backup companies that you can make the process much easier for you.

Whether in a personal or business setting, a person will come in contact with large amounts of digital data that needs to be stored in a secure place. With increasing amounts of emails, documents, presentations, graphics, etc, the likelihood of losing important information is increased if the data is not stored properly. Safe data storage is a must and is crucial in any setting.

A user should take the time to analyze the many options available for data storage and choose the solution that works best for them. Decide what is important and base your decision on what works best for your situation. Things to consider include; how quickly does the information need to be accessed? How often will the data be used? Will the data need to be stored on site or at a more secure remote location?

When you can answer these questions to your satisfaction, you will be in a better position to choose the best data storage option for your individual needs. Sometimes the choice is obvious, but a mistaken choice can lead to trouble in the future. The types of data storage available can include flash memory, external hard drives, online storage, and network attached storage devices.

Flash memory thumb drives are small and portable devices that allow a user to store and access files and programs quickly and easily. Most are set up with programs that can emulate a hard drive so a user can work with the programs and bookmarks they need without packing an entire computer around. The downside is the limited amount of memory the offer.

An external hard drive will increase the storage capacity and still offer convenience and portability to the user. With an external hard drive the user can transport large files or connect it to a computer to back up an entire hard drive. Most users prefer using an external hard drive only when backing up large files, such as video files, since continuous use can get tiresome.

Another option is a relatively recent addition to the storage industry, and that is online storage options. This involves backing up data to an off-site location through the Internet. This allows a user to access the data from any computer, but can be a little slow depending on the connection being used.

There is also network attached storage that is most often used by businesses that need a data storage solution that can easily be accessed by multiple users. This is often done by using multiple hard drives in a single array so the solution can be scaled to meet a growing businesses needs. Many companies also include an automated redundancy backup to help ensure the safety of sensitive data.

Some data storage options work best for business use while others may be more appropriate on a personal level. If you take the time to evaluate all your data storage options you will have a better chance at finding what works best for you. There is a data storage and backup solution for you no matter what your needs call for.

by Ryse Edwards

First of all, there are many registry cleaners available to you. You’re trying to sort through them and determine which one is the best registry cleaner. When it comes to registry cleaners, you will have two choices. You can either pay for a registry cleaner or you can download one for free.

It’s important to take the necessary precautions if you’re choosing the free registry cleaner. If it’s not being provided by a reputable company, then it’s important to stay away from it. Lots of free software (including registry cleaners) can contain all kinds of harmful files. Even if you think you’re getting a free registry cleaner, you could end up with some sort of malware instead.

Obviously there are many other issues that can be sent to your computer like dialers and hijackers, but the point is it’s a huge problem. The worst part is you don’t even know it until it’s too late. Definitely not one of the benefits to the free registry cleaner, right?

The easiest way for people to reach your computer today is by giving away something that is free. All they do is add the malicious software into another program that looks great, and when you download it, the virus finds its way throughout the computer. Obviously the initial goal was to find the best registry cleaner, but thanks to this specific download, your anti-virus might not be able to catch it. All it needs to do is think the download is a legitimate program.

The best registry cleaner will cost a little bit of money. Overall, you can count on any company who charges for their registry cleaner to be legitimate. They wouldn’t have a reason to include malware. Beyond the malware issue, there’s another reason why the best registry cleaner is going to cost money; updates. Even if you find a reputable free registry cleaner, it doesn’t mean that the creator is going to keep updating the product. If they’re giving it away for free, they don’t have much incentive to keep the product updated.

Then again, the best registry cleaner out there is going to have to keep it competitive. Whether it’s because of the free versions issues, or even the money issues, everyone wants a great deal. It’s just important to remember that the most expensive version isn’t always the best one for you or your computer.

Because so many of the paid registry cleaners do the same thing, the most important thing to consider is to make sure they are reputable. The best registry cleaner will be one that is within your price range too. Because there is a lot of competition between the paid registry cleaners you can get one from a reputable company for a minimal cost.

by John Williams

Ask the average person what annoys them the most about their computers. At least half of them will say Adware. Usually harmless but extremely irritating, adware is often included in the installation packages of free software and once it?s there on your computer you?ll be bombarded with banner or popup ads, browser redirects and other annoyances. While adware can be exasperating, it?s also pretty easy to detect and remove these unwelcome stowaways on your system.

If your computer is suddenly, sluggish, plagued with pop-up adds or you have suddenly experienced a change in your homepage, chances are, you have adware on your computer. Some types of this software are deemed malware, and invade your privacy. It collects information about a user, and their browsing habits, and displays advertisements on your web browser based on the information it collects on your browsing patterns.

This snoopy software can invade ones privacy, because much of its characteristics have begun to resemble spy-ware. Much of it contains a code, which tells an advertiser something about you. It will give information to the advertiser, letting them know what sites you have visited, what content you have viewed, and for how long. Advertisers consider this type of data collection to be harmless to the user, but many see it as an invasion of privacy.

Adware often comes bundled together with free software called freeware. Free software developers regard this type of software as a means of recovering development costs, to allow the user to utilize the software free of cost. The income generated by advertisements is a motivation for software developers to maintain that software free to the use. However, such advertisements tend to be rather bothersome to pc users, so one would have to determine whether using free software is worth having pop ups, adverts, and data collection, or just purchase the software they are using, which would be free of adware.

Many people conflate adware with viruses, though the two share only the quality of being unwelcome software. Adware doesn?t reproduce itself as do viruses, nor do they cause any actual harm to your system. Since the two types of unwanted program are fundamentally different, you can?t (usually) use the same software to detect and protect you from both. Your antivirus scanner simply isn?t designed to detect adware and an adware scanner isn?t made to detect or protect you from viruses.

Detecting adware is simple thanks to great programs that detect, remove, and even prevent this software from installing onto your computer. These programs are inexpensive, and essential to keeping you and your personal data safe when using your pc. There are even free programs available to detect and remove this type of intrusive malware; however, it is best to get a paid version of this software that will protect you from future problems. Adware detection programs are very important because they will detect, and eliminate the unwanted software from your pc, and prevent them from reinstalling. In addition, anti adware, programs have regular updates, and most automatically update themselves, and so they keep up to date with the latest adware, and protect your computer by doing so.

Another way to detect and protect you from adware is to have a good firewall in place. A firewall protects your computer from malware, and you can use the one that comes with Windows, or you can purchase a better one at a very inexpensive price. It is important to have your firewall turned on at all times, and worth the money to invest in a good one.

Adware is irritating and can be an intrusion on your privacy ? and it?s nearly everywhere on the web! However, detecting and protecting your computer from adware is as simple as using a quality adware scanner and a firewall. With these basic security measures, you can enjoy all the net has to offer without the distractions adware causes or having to worry about advertisers watching over your shoulder as you surf the web.

What is Adware? Adware is any computer program that displays advertisements while they are running. These advertisements can be displayed in your web browser, in a pop-up window, in special toolbars, or within the host program. Adware can also gather specific information about you like your habits or your interests and then send through a background internet connection without letting you know about it. This allows the vendors of the adware to send you targeted advertisements and collect general statistics.

Anti-Spyware and Registry Anti-Spyware is third party software that constantly watches over the operating system. It also scans the system on a regular basis or preset intervals such as every time the system boots or shuts down. It mainly scans the activity of Internet Explorer. If it detects any activity not initiated by the user it immediately sounds an alarm and removes the cause of the activity, the Spyware. Once the Spyware has been removed the remnants must be cleaned from the registry. Free Spyware Adware remover tools can do the job efficiently. This software scans the registry for Spyware and redundant entries and deletes these entries. If traces of Spyware are left in the registry they will serve to slow down the system and may also download the Spyware again from the Internet. A Spyware removal utility is another free Spyware removal software that scans and cleans the registry very efficiently. This free Spyware Adware removal tool also has a registry backup function to restore the registry to its original state if things go awry.

One of the first things people do when they get a spyware or adware infection is they download a free software that promises to remove the unwanted infection. This is absolutely one of the worst things you can do. These free downloads will search for and remove the unwanted infections your computer has, but right after doing so they will usually download their own form of spyware right back into your computer. This is not only a waste of time, it can make your computer worse off then when it started.

With the astonishing growth of adware and spyware on the internet, the struggling economy and the high price of gas, I don’t blame you for looking for something free! But this is not a free service!

It is however, imperative that there be anti-Spyware and anti-virus software on the system to prevent serious and more consistent Spyware and virus attacks. The security settings on the system serve to aid this front-end security software. The firewall settings on Windows wards off many attacks though this is not always effective as third party security software.

USB Flash Memory storage devices are a practical and highly portable method of storing and moving data between places. Flash Memory is highly practical for this task as it has no moving parts, supports fairly large storage and if used properly has very little chance of failing in any serious manner.

Unfortunately recently there has been a massive increase in the failure rate of these previously ultra reliable USB devices, so much so that the data recovery sector is now placing a lot of emphasis and time on USB memory stick recovery. The question has to be asked however what is the problem all of a sudden?

USB memory sticks are dropping in price all the time as with any technology as it ages and gains mass market adoption, and year on year growth in shipment of these devices has a run rate of around 100% meaning by the end of this year unit sales are expected to be in the region of a staggering 300 million.

With such large quantities of devices arriving in consumer’s hands, there is, of course bound to be a number of failures experienced in the field. What data recovery experts at Flash Data Recovery have found is that failure rates could be running at up to 5% – this relates to a tremendously high number of devices failing in the field, up to 15 000 000 devices per year!

When a previously very reliable product starts to have increased failure rate, just as in any industry the repairers (in this case the data recovery companies) start to ask why and often collaborate on their findings. Investigations have started to reveal that the actual memory chips in the drives have not failed at all and are working just as expected.

Part of the problem lies with the consumer to some extent as the demand for ever cheaper products leads to the need for lean and more efficient or cheaper manufacturing requirements. A lot of failed devices are said to originate in the far east as are marketed as generic memory devices.

These fake devices often take advantage of the consumer by reporting much higher storage capacity than is actually available which is very misleading right from the off. Another problem here as well is the cost , yes they are cheaper but what are you actually getting for your money? The manufacturing process can only go so far and that only leaves one option, cheaper and substandard components!

Often These portable devices will hold a lot of your valuable data that if lost and not backed up could be lost forever. You get what you pay for as the saying goes so is it really worth the increased risk of data loss to save what is in reality a tiny sum compared to the cost of a branded device?

If you need to retrieve data that you have lost from your computer or laptop then you may already be looking for some kind of data recovery software to help you do this. There are many different types of packages in the market that claim to help you do this. So, what should you be looking for to help you find the best one for your needs?

The first thing you should do is assess how bad your problem is and whether you are technically capable of handling a complex software solution yourself. If your computer has died completely then a software program that boots it into a DOS mode, for example, may be able to sort the problem out.

But, if you are not confident doing this yourself then you should probably pass your computer over to a computer specialist to have them retrieve your data and sort out your system. Using these kinds of programs when you do not understand what you doing can cause even more damage and give you a decreased chance of getting your data back.

In many cases, however, you will need to use a data recovery software program to simply find files that you have accidentally deleted or lost on your system following a virus or other problem. File deletion on standard computer systems doesn’t actually remove the file from your system. In basic terms the file still exists but you won’t be able to find it as its links will have been taken away when you deleted it.

So, software programs that help with this kind of data recovery may be an option for you to use yourself. If this is the case then you need to work out what kind of files you need to retrieve. Some programs will help you out with different kinds of files but many nowadays will specialize in specific types of file data recovery.

So, for example, you could try out a program that helps you restore files or one that is designed to help you find deleted emails. Other popular programs here include ones that are specifically designed to help you find photos and other kinds of media files that you may have inadvertently lost.

The best way to find the right program to suit you is to look at consumer reviews wherever possible. This will give you an indication of issues such as how easy the software is to use and how it has worked for other people. It’s always best to do this before you buy any kind of software program as it gives you a more realistic view of its advantages and disadvantages.

Finally, before you start using your data recovery software do make sure to read through the instructions/getting started section real well. This will ensure that you do not make any further mistakes and will give you the best chance of getting your files back. If all else fails you can always get a data recovery specialist to look at your problem to see if they can be of any help.

Microsoft Excel measures row height in points, the same units used to measure font size. When creating reports this makes it easy to relate the height of rows to the required line spacing. This means that you can increase the line spacing simply by increasing the height of your rows.

The methods used for changing column widths (something that Excel users do far more frequently) can also be used to change row height. Firstly. we can make a selection and. in the Cells section of the Home Tab of the Excel Ribbon, choose Format then Row Height. If you double Excel’s default row height, you will obtain an approximation of double line spacing. If you multiple the default by a factor of 1.5, you will obtain approximately 1 1/2 line spacing, and so forth.

Excel’s AutoFit facility can also be used to automatically resize the height of rows to accommodate the largest font size contained in a given selection. To AutoFit a single row position the cursor at the bottom of the row heading and simply double-click. To AutoFit a range of rows make a selection and then double-click at the bottom of any of the row headings. The same thing can also be achieved by using Format – AutoFit Row Height in the Cells section of the Home Tab of the Excel Ribbon.

It is very often the case that row height can be completely ignored since Excel will automatically adjust the height of rows to accommodate the largest font size found on each row. Let us suppose, for example, that we insert a header row at the top of a worksheet centred across all the columns containing data. If we were to increase the font size of our heading, Excel will automatically increase the height of the row to accommodate the new font size, pushing the rest of the data down.

It is also possible to increase the row height interactively. This is done by placing the cursor on the line below the row heading and dragging up or down. As you drag, Excel displays the row height, both in points and in pixels.

Increasing the height of a row makes the vertical alignment of your text more apparent. By default Excel aligns text vertically at the bottom of the cell. In the case of headings, changing the vertical alignment to centred is often far more useful.

Microsoft Excel has a number of different ways of changing the width of columns and the height of rows. The width of columns is specified in characters. By default, every column has a width of just over eight characters. This means that if you’re using the spreadsheets primarily for numerical data, you can enter eight digits in each column using the default width.

If you plan to modify the default width, it makes sense to do so before you start entering data into your worksheet. For example, if you know that you’ll be entering fairly short pieces of data in each column, you might want to reduce the default width. To customise the default width, go to the Cells section of the Home Tab of the Excel Ribbon. Click the Format button and choose Default Width from the drop-down. In the window which appears, you will see Excel’s standard column width of approximately 8 characters. Simply input a new entry and click OK.

As long as you haven’t changed a column width using any other technique, you can change the default width at any time and any cells that have been left at the default width will automatically change to reflect the new setting.

The second method of changing column widths is to use Excel’s AutoFit feature. This technique automatically adjusts the width of a column to ensure that the contents of the selected cells are completely visible. To AutoFit a range columns, highlight the cells that you want Excel to take into account or simply highlight the entire column. Next, position the cursor on the right hand edge of the column and, when the cursor changes to a double arrow, double-click.

To AutoFit data in a range of columns either select a range of data across several columns or highlight several entire columns. With your selection in place, choose Format then AutoFit Column Width in the Cells group of the Home Tab of the Excel Ribbon.

When using Excel’s AutoFit feature, it’s inevitable that you’ll end up with columns that have different widths. If you want a range of columns to have exactly the same width then simply select the range and choose Format then Column Widths and enter the required width.

Excel also allows you to interactively adjust the width of columns. To do this, position the cursor on the right hand edge of the column. When the cursor changes to a double arrow, click, hold and drag. As you drag, the width of the column is displayed both in characters and in pixels. This technique can be used either to adjust the width of a single column or a range of columns.

If you’re in the market for a brand new laptop, you’ll definitely want to scout around and find the best computer hardware for your needs. Although laptops come in all shapes and sizes, the following tips should guide you well enough to make a smart purchase.

The “tech specs” of your laptop is perhaps the most important consideration. You should get exactly what you need to match your activities, not more, and not less. For example, you need totally different system if you’re just planning to use it for work purposes, as opposed to letting your laptops be your entire home entertainment system.

Different applications need different type of notebooks, and getting more than what you need is literally a waste of funds. On the other hand, getting less than what you need will just frustrate you and waste your time.

The first thing you need to consider is the Central Processing Unit or CPU; it is the “brains” of your computer. Generally speaking a faster CPU is better as it will eliminate a lot of loading and processing time, but there is a choice between Intel processors, or other manufacturers.

The overall size, weight and dimension of your future laptop is just as important as anything else. If you’re a woman or just prefer lighter loads, go for thinner ones than weight less than 1.2kg – these are usually on the higher price range but it will be worth the money, and the lack of back aches!

Thirdly, and most importantly, the warranty period and service terms for your laptop. Generally speaking most laptops come with standard one-year warranty, but certain brands like Fujitsu also include “extended” three-year upgrades and on-site repairs. With this option they come to your home or office and troubleshoot your laptop problems. Expect a premium for the “on-site” repairs, but extended warranties are becoming more commonplace and you should look out for for laptop models that offer them at no additional cost.

As for personal choice, I prefer Lenovo brand of laptops, especially the Lenovo Thinkpad laptop that is both affordable and sufficient for high-end processing. Ideally, your future laptop should be able to get you through the next four years before you invest on a new one. Not many laptops fit the bill though, so shop for your notebook wisely!

With the increasing popularity of Virtual Machines comes an issue that many may not be aware of. This problem is an age-old issue that has affected systems from the very early days of storage. It can cause hard drive failure leading to expensive data loss scenarios necessitating data recovery professionals. This problem is, of course, fragmentation.

If you are fortunate enough to have very deep pockets then you may be using SSD’s or solid state drives. These still remain expensive and are out of the reach of most users who still have to rely (although getting much faster) on the slowest and some would say the most vulnerable technology in your computer- the hard drive. Hard drive fragmentation can cause problems with virtual machines and in some cases even data loss.

Fragmentation is where a file is split into multiple components by the operating system to allow it to fit in available space of the hard disk drive. When you are already running one operating system, and fragmentation becomes an issue, running another highly fragmented system on top of this causes a tremendous slow down in performance.

What is more, the premature wear that all of this fragmentation can cause to the hard disk storage can dramatically reduce the useable life of the storage below. Even complex, high performance, RAID arrays can be reduced to a snail like crawl due to high levels of fragmentation. If this problem starts to show itself on a number of the storage devices in any array you could be left with a situation where data recovery is your only option.

Each operating system will have it’s own method of dealing with file fragmentation (or not as the case may be). Whilst Mac OS X will automatically defragment a file under the size of 20mb, windows pays scant regard to how badly files are fragmented. Other systems use a variety of different methods to combat the problem.

Defragmentation utilities can take care of this problem, however, running them practically ties up the machine until completion, slowing the machine to a crawl. So what can be done to remove this issue? There are a number of possibilities that can be tried.

Fortunately we are not left to the operating systems alone as there are a number of third party defragmentation applications that are far superior to the inbuilt OS tools. These can be scheduled to run when system usage is very low for example whilst the system is idle or the screen saver is running. As you go defragmentation is my personal choice.
Use separate hard disks for your Virtual Machine software. While this may appear to fly in the face of VM’s in the first place, having a robust and business capable solution is in most cases the driving factor. Some astute companies will even have a dedicated hard disk array solely for the purpose of running VM software if there is a business case for it.

Ensuring your systems are working in tip top condition is vital to maintaining a productive IT infrastructure.
Computer viruses are a hot topic that seems to affect everyone who owns a computer system, whether at work or at home. The companies that produce software programs that catch and delete these computer viruses are constantly updating their databases for virus types and definitions so that they can better protect your system against all the newest viruses. Creating virus endorsement programs is a multi-billion dollar business that is growing more and more everyday. The number of viruses being created and uploaded to the Internet is growing at an astounding rate of a new one every eighteen seconds! This definitely keeps the virus endorsement companies on their toes with research and development.

Because these viruses copy themselves to any computer system they come in contact with, the spread of viruses throughout a computer network or the Internet is a very fast and deadly thing to happen to your computer. Because computer viruses are a hot topic, they routinely are the subject of magazine articles and forum topics online. While some viruses do nothing more than frustrate you with pop-up ads or other messages, others are completely malicious and set out from the start to destroy the files and operating systems of your computer.

Of the 53,000 viruses that have been identified and classed, more than 80 percent of them have been classed as malicious and capable of harming your computer system or data files. These computer viruses behave in much the same way as biological viruses by contaminating any computer systems they come in contact with. These self-executing programs are generally very small and work at harmful the way your computer works or by harmful or completely removing key system files.

When mechanism viruses have been a prohibited topic, some-more as well as some-more people find out about a mortal energy of these programs. In this approach a great most people find out about pathogen insurance programs as well as pour out to get newest insurance programs or they safeguard which their mechanism pathogen insurance is up to date. Most repository as well as headlines articles about mechanism viruses have an outcome of infrequently panicking people in to desiring which their computers have been during risk. Having a great anti-virus module as well as stream updates is a single of a most appropriate ways to strengthen your mechanism complement opposite pathogen attacks.

This contingency additionally is joined with great record day to day such as scanning all downloaded files with an anti-virus module prior to opening them. It is regularly a great suspicion to take a time to safeguard which a record we suspicion we were downloading is in truth a record we have. For instance, a record which labels itself as a film record as well as is reduction than a single megabyte in distance is not a film file. Film files have been in all scarcely a thousand times which distance as well as therefore, a record we have downloaded is most expected not a film record as well as might in actuality be a mechanism virus.

All it takes is a single chairman permitting a little executable files they have been sent to open as well as begin replicating itself by a network of computers to have hold up Hell for which company. Pathogens attacks can ravage bureau systems really fast ensuing in mislaid income as well as consumer certainty which can begin an approach which bonds in which association have been traded ensuing in even serve monetary losses. Which is since it is so critical for incomparable businesses to have extensive mechanism pathogen insurance programs in place?

These virus programs are much more detailed and powerful than the anti-virus programs that many consumers have protecting their computer systems. Because the fallout from a virus attack is much more financially damaging to a large corporation, the virus protection program needs to be much more robust and capable of protecting multiple systems within the corporation. Computer viruses are a hot topic among businesses simply because of the way that they can affect the company financially.

Spyware, the worst form of malware with the potential to steal your identity, does a good job of hiding itself so that you cannot simply look on your computer and see if you have any spyware programs installed. Because of this, in order to find out if your computer is infected with spyware, you have to look for signs that there is some type of spyware that is affecting your system, so that you can quickly do something about it before your personal data has been stolen.

A sluggish computer is normally the first tell tale sign that it might have spyware. When you have opened two or more programs on your computer, it is the memory that is responsible for assigning your resources/memory to these programs so that they can run smoothly. Spyware, which is a kind of a program, really overloads your computer when it is opened and running without you knowing it thus causing the computer to really slow down.

Another sure sign is when strange programs begin to pop up on your task manager. Some spyware can hide its presence, but most of them can be seen as programs with names you do not recognize. Your computer will detect these normally so keep an eye out for unfamiliar names.

Third indication of a spyware infecting your computer is when icons start appearing on your desktop for trial programs that you have not installed on your system. Seldom they are created by reliable programs e.g AOL had a number of add-on trial program installations on your hard disk. But you never know they may be used by a spyware that wants you to download a program and install it in order to steal some of your identity or infect your computer further

Additionally, if you have not reformatted your hard drive in a while, you probably have low level spyware installed. While this may not be dangerous, it can still harm your computer. As stated earlier, even if your computer’s performance is not negatively impacted, spyware still needs to be removed in order to guarantee that more dangerous spyware does not install itself in the future.

Apart from being difficult to find, spyware is also difficult to get rid of. If you don’t manage to get rid of the entire spyware program, most of them can then reinstall themselves, therefore it’s essential to use special software to successfully locate and uninstall it.

Spyware, even non-invasive spyware, can cause a host of problems for your computer and put you at risk for identity theft. If your computer is infected, you’ll probably notice it’s running slower, but there’s a lot of work going on behind the scenes as well. Even a seemingly innocuous spyware program can attract malicious programs that can record personal and financial data. If you think your computer might be infected, you should make it a top priority to remove it before it’s able to collect and disseminate your personal information.

by Ed Lathrop

In the last few years, spyware has become very sophisticated. The sick people who write this software, do so to steal information about you. They are out to get your social security number, passwords, banking information and more! Viruses are another concern and although they don’t spy on you they can get so deeply into your hard drive, only a reformat will make it usable again!

In the most basic sense, virus cleaners and spyware cleaners are the same thing. So, if you have a good virus scanner or a good spyware cleaner installed on your computer, you don’t need to install the other kind of program to protect your computer against spyware and viruses. The fact of the matter is a virus protection program and a spyware protection program together on the same PC, don’t work out too well as this arrangement will slow down routine operations.

This article points out which viruses and spyware it is mandatory your spyware or virus cleaner is able to clean off your hard drive. Also, we’ll discuss what this awful stuff is capable of doing to a computer and even your financial well-being.

Spyware and Adware

Spyware and adware are similar in the fact they fact the are able to watch what you are doing on your own computer. Adware is more interested in getting information on you as a customer, so that the people who are using it will know how and what to sell to you. Spyware, in many cases, truly spies on you and can find out a lot of very sensitive information such as your social security number.

The word “malware”is a contraction of the words malicious and software. Some malware are viruses and others are types of spyware that are malicious. Some examples of malware are: trojans, keyloggers, browser hijackers, worms, phishing software, rootkits, and bots. You should be sure your spyware or virus remover is capable of getting rid of all of these.

Rootkits, worms and trojans are types of viruses. Keyloggers, browser hijackers, phishing ware and bots are types of spyware. It is spyware that is most times is interested in stealing your personal information.

Sometimes a virus and spyware will team up on a computer or worse, the computer owner. For instance, a worm will be attached to a rootkit. The rootkit is capable of working its way into your computer’s operating system and then the worm will unleash its terror on your computer.

A Final Word About Removing Spyware

So, now we know we don’t need both spyware removers and antivirus programs installed on our computers. This leads us to believe we need a total one program to keep our computers running in tip top shape, but really there is one more piece of software we should have. When we remove spyware and/or viruses from our computers, we leave registry corruption in its wake. There are many other sources that create registry corruption, but this is one.

This means every computer should have a registry cleaner installed on it because when left alone, registry corruption will make your computer act a lot like some viruses and spyware make a computer act. This means the computer will lose speed and may crash frequently. A good registry scanner should be run once a month or so and after any malware has been removed.

You probably know that there are some who can visualize maths equations in their head and can very simply write down the basic figures they need for bringing the answer into focus, or indeed the answer itself. Tesla, the inventor of radio technology, was able to perform very complex calculus in his head and got a fail grade at school simply because he wasn’t able to work it out another way; in other words he couldn’t work it out on paper.

Today many folks have been revealed to be visual and they require to visualize the task on screen (or on paper) in order to obtain a complete grasp on the equation and for rendering the answer correctly. With Microsoft’s WYSIWYG Equation Editor this is now significantly facilitated.

The Wysiwyg Equation Editor is designed and included with all Microsoft Office 2007 and higher suites and is designed as a wysiwyg editor (what you see is what you get) that allows people the ability to generate calculations in a very visual way. It is a real time calculator as well as a graphical tool that can be used for many other applications as well.

For example, if you are creating an equation, you may move the equation to another application by using the XML markup language which is included in the control. The control may additionally be embedded by using an OLE embedded object feature on supported applications.

This means it is a dynamic editor which can be of use for a wide range of mathematics applications in addition to working with programs for generating a calculation formula of something dependent on this to function, thereby adding functionality to the program that would otherwise have taken more coding to complete it.

One of the main uses I’ve seen for this Wysiwyg Equation Editor is in chemistry and formulation sciences like this. This allows one to build and save their equations in much the same way you would write them out on a chalk board then flip the board over to save the equation while you work on another.

Using this format it is possible to save your work digitally and then port it to programs and even export it to a website page if you want. In essence it is an advanced visual calculator with built-in extra functions.

by Matthew Fletcher

Excel’s AutoFill feature is based on the program’s ability to spot patterns in the data that you enter. For example, if you type “Week 1″ in a given cell, you can have Excel automatically fill in “Week 2″, “Week 3″, etc. simply by dragging the AutoFill handle. This is to be found in the bottom right of the cell. If the cursor moves over it, the cursor changes appearance to a plus sign (+). When it changes you simply click, hold, drag in any direction and Excel will spot the pattern and maintain it to generate automatic data entries.

Whenever you use the AutoFill handle Excel displays the AutoFill Options drop down menu just below the last cell which has been automatically generated. If the program has not entered the correct data, you can choose one of the entries in the AutoFill Options to tell it what you actually meant it to do. For example, if you choose Copy Cells, you simply get an exact copy of what was in the original cell.

Excel also has the ability to automatically enter arbitrary series of data using a feature called Custom Lists. Certain lists are built into Excel, for example, the months of the year. To use the AutoFill feature, enter the first value in the list, for example, “Jan” or “January”. Next drag the AutoFill handle (located in the bottom right of the active cell) in any direction to automatically enter the rest of the custom list.

As well as these built-in lists, Excel allows you to create your own custom lists. For example, suppose you work for a company that has branches in several towns. It’s a safe bet that you’ll need to list these towns quite frequently in your spreadsheets. You could therefore save yourself considerable time by setting up the towns as a custom list.

To do this, simply select cells in one of your worksheets that contain the information. Next, click on the Office button and choose Excel options. Click on “Edit Custom Lists” in the “Popular” category. Excel displays the contents of the cells that we highlighted. To convert the selected data into a custom list, we simply click on the “Import” button.

This custom list can now be used in any of our worksheets, not just the sheet that contained the original information. Whenever we need out list, we simply type the first value. We then use the AutoFill handle to generate the remaining entries. When using AutoFill, you can drag in any direction and you don’t have to start with the first element in the custom list.

Custom lists can also be created directly in the “Custom Lists” dialog box. To do this, click on the “List Entries” button and type the entries separated by a carriage return. When you’ve finished entering the list, click on the Add button.

To delete an unwanted custom list, just click on it and press the “Delete” button. Excel checks that you want to delete the list and when you click “OK”, the custom list is removed.

by Albert McZeally

All of us want to protect ourselves. At home we have fire alarms, sprinklers and burglar alarms to keep our families safe. Car alarms and GPS for our cars keep our car and its occupants safe, and the rest of the time we are on the lookout for runaway cars, buses and those who would try to do us harm. For the same reasons we choose to protect our sensitive documents from anyone who would want to use the contents for something untoward.

Adding a password to your files is something that is simple and easy to do, once you know where to look. For the best protection you will want a password that is at least 12 characters long and contains a combination of letter, numbers and symbols. This will ensure that a thief cannot easily gain access to your files.

The important thing is that no matter what password you choose for your files, you need to keep track of it. Nothing is more aggravating than trying to get into an important file and realizing that you forgot the password. Although writing down your passwords seem like a bad idea, if you are prone to forgetfulness it may be necessary. Above all you want to make sure that your passwords never fall into the wrong hands.

This is where you need a password recovery tool. There are several different types of software available that can help you get into your files. While some of them are free, you will have much better success with a licensed version of password recovery software as they offer more options and have more streamlined recovery algorithms.

Password recover software use several different methods in order to guess the right password for a file. One of these methods is to go through the dictionary and try every word in it. If you know that you always use a number or symbol in the password you can optimize the search to include them.

To start the program will work through the dictionary, combining each word with numbers or symbols if you request. If your password is an actually word, then you should have some success here. Otherwise the software recovery tool will carry on to the next step, which is to try combinations of letters, numbers and symbols until it finds the right combination. The more complicated your password is, the longer the program will take to find the answer.

While there are many software programs offered for no charge, most people will have little success in getting these programs to access their files. Investing a few dollars will get you a much more streamlined program that will give you a much better chance of accessing your file, and in less time.

Password recover software can be used on many different types of files and even Windows itself, should you forget how to access your computer. Remember that you should only be using password recovery software to access your own files, as using it to open someone elses documents is illegal.

The next time you are password protecting your documents, consider opening a secure document and saving your passwords in there, then make sure that the password you place on that document is 1) easy to remember and 2) complicated enough that a software recovery program couldn’t open it. Then you wont have to worry about lost passwords or unprotected files.

When looking for a way to improve the performance of your PC, don’t overlook the importance of a good registry cleaner. This tool is a must for getting a slowing computer back up to speed as well as preventing errors and crashes. Seeing that a registry cleaner is such a great thing to have around makes me really confused as to why some people advise against using one!

In this article, I will argue in favor of registry cleaners and show how I use them to overcome registry corruption. This registry corruption will slow a computer’s operating capabilities and possibly make a PC not only very slow and error prone, but sometimes inoperable.

Windows Registries Corrupt Easily

It is true there are some registry cleaners available that are not very good, but usually these are free cleaners and like with anything else, you get what you pay for. Still, cleaning a computer’s registry with the right registry cleaner can get a computer that is slow and crashing on occasion back up and running at 100% speed and error free once again.

Though spyware and viruses are often the problem when a computer starts to act up, I’ve seen many cases where it was registry corruption that was the culprit. So, when registry corruption is the problem, what else can you do except clean it out?

New OS’s Need To Be Corruption Free

It is true, registry corruption wasn’t very much of a consideration a few years back. However, now with the huge file systems Windows XP and Vista operate under, it takes a long times for one operation to take place when it has to work through corruption. I know this may not make sense, but one piece of corruption will probably only affect a small area of a small operating system. However, the same amount of corruption will affect many areas in a large operating system. That is just the way it is.

Without cleaning corruption out of a PC, it will become slower and slower. In time, it will commit errors and eventually the “blue screen of death becomes inevitable!

Registry Cleaners Are a Good Thing

I’d like to know what anybody who doesn’t use registry cleaners does when they run into problems with their computers that are caused by registry corruption, because I’ve seen a good registry cleaner solve problems with poorly functioning computers 100′s of times!

In any event, the first thing I do when I encounter a slow computer is make sure there is no spyware or viruses present. Then, once I know the PC is free of these things and it still does not perform normally, a registry scan is the next logical step.

Of course, if there is no registry corruption, you will have to bring the computer to a professional. However, I have fixed many a sick computer with a registry cleaning, so I suggest you make sure you have no corruption before you bring your computer to before you bring it to the repair shop.

by Amy Nutt

Software programs are the lifeblood of our computers, without up to date software programs we wouldn’t be able to do all of the things that we need to do on our computers.

Some software updates may not be quite as necessary as others, but regular updates to some software are crucial to provide necessary security against the latest internet threats.

What Types of Updates are a Necessity?

If you spend time on the internet, send and receive e-mails or send and receive instant messages then internet security software is a necessity. Internet security software is what will protect you against viruses, spy-ware, ad-ware, mal-ware and all other sorts of threats present to those who spend time on the internet. New viruses and other forms of internet threats are generated every single day, in order for you to stay safe from these threats you need the best and most up to date security that you can get.

Some internet security software companies, like the producers of Norton Internet Security 2009, are constantly generating protection from the latest forms of internet threats and they make these updates available for their customers as soon as they are ready. Subscribers to Norton Internet Security 2009 can receive ‘pulse’ updates that are available with up to the minute protection to ensure that the user is protected from every type of threat as soon as it’s discovered.

Continuously updating your computer security software is an absolute necessity if you want your computer to be protected and to be running as fast and efficient as it’s capable.

What Types of Updates are Optional?

Some software companies tend to go a little bit overboard with updates, releasing a “brand new” version of a program when their users have barely even gotten a chance to get used to the previous version of the same program. These are the updates that you have to make a decision as to whether of not you want or need it enough to download the update.

You sometimes need to be wary of potential bugs that may be introduced with updates, manufacturers all too often rush the release of an update and let it hit the market before all of the bugs and incompatibilities are worked out. It’s not always necessary for a software package to be updated every few weeks or months.

For software packages or programs that you have installed on your computer that don’t have to do with your PC’s security, you have the freedom to be able to choose when and if you will install an update without the fear of an imminent threat making the decision for you. You can take the time to take into account how much you like the current version of the software and how well it runs on your system. You can compare the features listed in the update to the features of the version that you are currently running – if the features on the version you have are more appealing to you, or if the new version has no new features that you want or need, then you don’t have to update. You have the freedom to sit back and wait for reviews and reactions to the latest updates of programs that you are running, if the risk of incompatibilities outweighs the new features offered you can wait until the bugs are worked out in a future update, or just keep running the current version that you already have installed.

Ultimately – any update that becomes available on any type of software is optional, but you can keep your computer running at an optimal level by continuously updating discount computer software as the updates become available. Any updates that fix existing problems with software that you run are beneficial to download, as is any update that will increase the speed of the programs you are running, but the biggest benefit of updates comes with security software. Continuously updating your security software guarantees that you will be safe from the latest threats that may invade and cause problems with your PC, it will give you the piece of mind to surf the internet freely because you are protected.

For the same reasons we choose to protect our sensitive files from anyone who would want to use the contents for something untoward.

Anyone who keeps financial data such as credit card or bank account numbers should ensure they password protect their documents. Additionally, if you work in an office and handle sensitive information about your company or any of your clients these documents should be protected as well. Doing so can save you a lot of trouble should the files fall into the wrong hands.

There is one small downside to password protecting your documents ” what happens if you lose the password to a file? While you probably like to write down the passwords to your documents somewhere, this is not very safe as someone could find them and all your documents would be at risk. At the same time if you dont write them down you run the risk of losing all your important data if you forget the passwords associated with the files.

This is where you need a password recovery tool. There are several different types of programs available that can help you get into your files.

Next the software will try different combinations of letters, numbers and symbols to get into the file. If your password was short and simple then it should have no problem getting in, but if you use long, complicated passwords the software will need some time, and there is no guarantee that it will be able to find the right combination.

Remember that you should only be using password recovery software to access your own files, as using it to open someone elses documents is against the law.

When you are password protecting your documents, think about saving your password in a secure document that uses one password to open but includes all your passwords. This way is very simple to remember and not very complicated to retrieve if you do. This way there is never a moment where you cant open a document or file.

by Andrew Whiteman

The Mini toolbar is a ghostly floating palette which automatically appears whenever you highlight text. Initially all the options it contains are discreetly semi-transparent. However, when you position your cursor over the various controls it contains, the Mini toolbar becomes activated.

It contains a number of buttons for formatting your text. All of these buttons can also be found in the Home tab of the Word Ribbon. The top row of buttons allows you to alter the font, size and colour of our text and also contains Word’s nifty Format Painter. The Format Painter tool allows you to copy the format of the selected text to other areas of your document.

The second row of the Mini toolbar contains buttons for making text bold, italic, centre aligned. It also has options for changing the colour of the highlighted text, indenting text and inserting bullets.

In short, the Mini toolbar offers a very convenient way of quickly formatting your text without having to go back to the Ribbon to find the options you’re looking for. However, there may be times when you will find it inconvenient. This is particularly likely when using the drag-and-drop facility within Microsoft Word.

This feature enables you to highlight text and simply drag it to a new location. However, as you are about to drag, it’s very easy for the cursor to collide with the Mini toolbar and instead of dragging your text you end up changing its format.

As a user of Word 2007, only you can decide whether you like the Mini toolbar facility or not. If you decide it’s not for you, Word allows you to deactivate the Mini toolbar facility. Choose Word Options from the Office button. The very first option in the Popular category is “Show Mini Toolbar on selection”. If you decide that the you not like the Mini toolbar, simply switch off this option. Now, whenever you highlight text, no Mini toolbar palette will appear.

Even when you have asked Word not to display the Mini toolbar, it is still possible to show it by simply right-clicking on selected text.
